Judging is currently taking place. It’s a mammoth task, hundreds of images, judges conferring and excitement building.

Meet Davin! He was BORN to be on Team Dad & Davin cos he’s MY SON! Davin was (almost) born with a camera in hand & has been the quiet achiever in the background for decades. Now he’s front & centre adding his creative artistry & skills to all of our amazing projects. I am so excited & thrilled to welcome Davin into the new Tero Sade, Photographer! We are the dream team & together we’ll be creating unparalleled images of your precious family because we know that family is everything❣️Wow how precious is this professional photo from all those years ago!! This is why I love doing what I do! Congratulations Davin & welcome to our amazing new future together 🥰🥰

In Davin’s own words:

“My earliest memories of a home were not just that because I remember mischievously roaming the floors of our home which was also our place of work. That’s what I knew it to be back then, work was my family plus people who seemed to visit all the time. Two aspects of these childhood memories stand out to me the most. The mysterious bathroom with curtains over the door and Red Light ominously booming from it as my father worked in the darkroom turning film into photographs like a mad scientist in our own home. The other was sitting on my Mother’s lap and watching on as she hand-painted on the prints themselves, a plate that I think would have been sourced from our kitchen covered in the dried inks, paints and pigments, a fine brush and a hand with surgeon-like precision that did what today’s photoshop now does. I have even heard from my parents that sometimes I took my hand at retouching images as a child when my parents weren’t looking causing a lot more work, I plead the fifth.

Car rides to school were always filled with the talk of work which was quite boring to growing ears but it gave me a level of understanding of the history of what our family business is from at an early age. I recall hearing my mother answer the phone more times than I can count. It wasn’t until much later I got to experience the side of our business that my dad breathes life into until I was old enough to (actually) hold a camera myself and understand what makes him special.

I once wrote an essay for a highschool photography class where I wrote about and learnt about my dad’s journey into photography, through his epic tales of journalistic scenes, stories of flying through the sky hanging out of windows. It was all so grand and it was then that I commited a misunderstanding I regret and feel was potentially a great insult to the man who raised me and who I now work with. I thought it was the tool that enabled him to do what he does. I wrote about how he upgraded his cameras and it allowed him to be a great photographer. As I brought words to him as a proud student I saw the upset this caused him. This was a omeone who had spent their lifetime learning their craft. It’s not the camera, or the tools… It’s the person. In my teenage years I stepped into the chair of doing what my mother once did which is now on a digital scale, but it was then and thousands upon thousands of images later that I saw what it was that made Tero who he is… He reads the light and the sky alike, he understands his subject and connects with them. He lets people be comfortable and act like themselves, which is where he truly shines, catching real moments of people being people, kids running through the park, brothers and sisters giving each other looks only a sibling could give. He captures moments with his eye before he captures it with a camera… He truly is a master of photography.

Now that I am 30, I have looked back on my amazing upbringing and the things that happened around me, I recall visitors and guests who would stay with us for dinner who I would later learn are all these amazing photographers from across Australia and the world, and wow, the stories I would hear. It was like my own story book of collective artists experiences on their journeys with a camera. They would nearly always turn to me and ask if I would pick up a camera and join my dad. Like a protesting kid I would often say “No!” but I think deep down I never really had a choice, it’s always been around me, I understand it and see it.
So far I’ve spent my time behind the scenes and screens doing what my mother once did, but one day… who knows I might have that glass in my hand that lets the world see it how I see it.

I have worked in and out of our family business for long enough to be working towards my second long service leave with ups and downs, I have stormed out shouting “I Quit” and all the rest. I know this business. I know Tero. As an adult I have grown to apprieciate family now that I have my own and I am here to stay teaming up with my dad doing what he lives and breathes.”
