In 2022/23, the Murray River floods devastated countless families and farmers along the river. Among those most affected were the Lower Murray Irrigation Area (LMRIA), where entire paddocks, farms, and livelihoods were swallowed by water.
Out of this hardship came a powerful collective, Women of the LMRIA. Whether out in the paddocks, on the books, leading in the community, or raising families, these women are all part of what keeps the land alive.
Once the waters subsided and the land began its slow recovery, I had the privilege of sitting down with these incredible women and their families. I listened to their stories, captured their portraits, and witnessed firsthand the resilience that continues to carry them forward.
Now, the has proudly hosted an exhibition of these images and stories, giving voice to the women behind the land. If you haven’t had the chance to see it yet, the exhibition closes this Sunday.
I’m so grateful to the Women of the LMRIA for opening their lives and hearts to me and now to the broader community.
