I have some exciting news. I’m going to study Midwifery this year!
It’s been a big decision that I’ve gone back and fourth on many a time, but in the end I realised that the question will never go away so I may as well start the degree and see for myself if it’s the right thing to do. Since accepting the offer I’ve come across lots of positive stories about midwives demanding and creating real positive change within their workplaces and I hope to one day add to that legacy 😍
I didn’t get the school marks to go straight into the course, so I rather spontaneously studied a bridging course which was the equivalent of one semester of full time uni last year. It turned out to be a lot of work, and I ended up studying full time on our one month holiday to Canada last year 😂 we would drop in to dodgy wifi zones in the middle of nowhere to submit assignments (and I cried in a tourist information centre when something didn’t want to submit once or twice). I’d download lectures and readings to watch as Riley graciously drove through remote country, interrupting me every time there was something beautiful to look at which was about 90% of the time. It was a lot of work but now I am so excited to see what lies ahead.
I decided to study at CDU, because they offer online learning which I appreciate the flexibility of. Also because the language they use to describe the degree sounds a lot more woman centred than other unis I looked at. And they collaborated with the to create the Caring for Mum on Country project, which speaks volumes to their values.
I can’t say where the degree will take me, but I’m excited to learn as much as I can about pregnancy, birth, and being with woman in this sacred time 🤍
So here are some photos of me enjoying a healthy dose of study and play on holidays 🌞
