One question I get asked from time to time is why my portrait session pricing hasn’t really changed in 5ish years.
The simple answer? Because I know life is expensive.
Over the years, the cost of pretty much everything has gone up, and family budgets are often stretched in ways they weren’t before. While I’ve made changes to other parts of my business, I’ve intentionally kept my portrait sessions at $400, including 10 edited images, because I wanted to continue offering an option that feels achievable for more families.
What I love about this approach is that it gives people flexibility.
Some families are happy with their included images and that’s all they need. Others fall in love with their gallery and choose to purchase a few extra favourites. Some decide they want every image because they simply can’t choose. There is no pressure either way, and the full gallery collection is always capped so there are no surprises.
I take the same approach with my extended family sessions. The session fee remains the same, and each family group can decide for themselves whether they would like to purchase additional images from the gallery.
Photography is an investment, but I also understand that budgets look different for every family. Keeping my pricing structure simple and flexible has allowed more people to capture this season of their lives, whether they’re welcoming a new baby, updating family photos, celebrating a milestone, or simply wanting to remember the everyday moments before they disappear.
Because at the end of the day, I believe everyone deserves photographs that tell their story.
