One question I get asked from time to time is why my portrait session pricing hasn’t really changed in 5ish years.

The simple answer? Because I know life is expensive.

Over the years, the cost of pretty much everything has gone up, and family budgets are often stretched in ways they weren’t before. While I’ve made changes to other parts of my business, I’ve intentionally kept my portrait sessions at $400, including 10 edited images, because I wanted to continue offering an option that feels achievable for more families.

What I love about this approach is that it gives people flexibility.

Some families are happy with their included images and that’s all they need. Others fall in love with their gallery and choose to purchase a few extra favourites. Some decide they want every image because they simply can’t choose. There is no pressure either way, and the full gallery collection is always capped so there are no surprises.

I take the same approach with my extended family sessions. The session fee remains the same, and each family group can decide for themselves whether they would like to purchase additional images from the gallery.

Photography is an investment, but I also understand that budgets look different for every family. Keeping my pricing structure simple and flexible has allowed more people to capture this season of their lives, whether they’re welcoming a new baby, updating family photos, celebrating a milestone, or simply wanting to remember the everyday moments before they disappear.

Because at the end of the day, I believe everyone deserves photographs that tell their story.

Yesterday’s sky. Today’s forest.

The same beautiful mama, but a completely different mood.

One of my favourite things about maternity sessions is creating variety. Within the space of a single afternoon, we went from wide open mountain views to the quiet stillness of the forest.

Both beautiful.
Both powerful.
Both telling the story of a woman on the verge of meeting her baby boy.

The kind of winter evening photographers dream about.

Soft light, gentle skies and a mama glowing with anticipation.

After celebrating their elopement earlier this week, Courtney and Leyton joined me this afternoon to capture another incredible chapter of their story as they prepare to welcome their little boy into the world.

The winter light was absolutely magical, and this image stopped me in my tracks the moment I saw it.

We also spent some time amongst the trees creating something completely different, and I can’t wait to share more from this beautiful session soon.

A little mini break.
No big plans. No perfect weather.
Just slow exploring, foggy skies, maple trees, puddle jumping, muddy shoes, exploring somewhere new, and watching Hadley completely in her element. She managed to make friends with the Airbnb farm dog as well.

These are the kinds of photos I know I’ll treasure most years from now.
The in-between ones.
The running, the exploring, the quiet pyjama mornings before the world properly wakes up.

Honestly, the fog and rain made it even better.

They chose simple.
Intentional.
Completely and unapologetically about the two (ummm three) of them.

Congratulations again Courtney and Leyton

One of the reasons I’ll always let you choose your final included images from a full viewing gallery… because the photos you connect with are not always the same ones I’d instinctively pick first.

After showing a few back-of-camera sneaks during yesterday’s sunset maternity session, I could tell Lucy loved the images we created in this darker little forest pocket. So when I was editing sneak peeks last night, I made sure to include one from this spot for her.

The images I shared yesterday were probably my personal favourites from the session… but this one? Lucy has already declared it’s being printed BIG for their bedroom wall.

And honestly, I love that.

We all see photographs differently. Some people are drawn to golden light and wide open views. Others connect with mood, emotion, quiet moments, or the feeling a photo gives them. There’s no right or wrong favourite.

It’s also why I love including variety in your sessions… different locations, different light, different energy and why you’ll sometimes catch me with a very concentrated expression on my face while I’m shooting. I’m usually listening, observing, and mentally noting the little comments you make along the way.

Because sometimes the image that becomes your forever favourite is the one I quietly knew you’d love all along.

Golden light, mountain air, and the sweetest season of waiting.
Lucy & Tony are counting down the days until they meet their baby boy, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect afternoon to capture this chapter for them.

There’s so much more to real estate than buying and selling houses.
It’s new beginnings, changing seasons, growing families, downsizing chapters, and finding a place that feels like home.

A few moments captured for around the community they work within every day.

One thing people don’t always realise about small businesses:

When you send an enquiry, there’s usually a real person behind the scenes getting hopeful.

Not entitled to your booking.
Not expecting a yes.
Just genuinely excited at the possibility of working with you.

A simple reply, even if it’s a no, gives closure, clarity, and respect for the time spent preparing information for you.

That kind of kindness matters more than people realise.
