I gained a lifetime experience and learned about my culture, answering questions I never thought I'd get right. I was answering something I had so little knowledge about, but took that knowledge with me for a lifetime. Answering how we hunted, how we protected our groups, how we traded foods and medicines, and even to***co - what most Aussies think is a w**d - was known as native to***co. I found it interesting that we used to trade it, not just smoke it, for other medicines or foods. How we carried water and made dirty water clean was also fascinating. I learned how much our plants were used as medicines and foods we ate, not just meat like emu or kangaroo, or other animals; we ate a lot of plant food native to us. Learning that we used some poison in our waters to catch fish and other things to help protect us was very interesting. It wasn't just how we made things, but how we used to travel with fire and start other fires, even when each season was different; we used our fire to dry out plants to keep that fire going for when it was colder. Understanding what we wore and how we dressed during colder weather, and how we cooled down in warmer weather back in the day, was interesting to me. I learned so much from this experience at the Adelaide museum and gained so much knowledge ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ. I'm truly thankful to the elders on campus for giving me this lifetime experience as a student. I'll be passing this knowledge on to my own future generations. There's so much more I could have gotten up to, but there wasn't enough time. Thank you, Adelaide University and Elders on Campus programs, for this experience I will never forget.

Today is National Sorry Day a solemn time to reflect on a painful chapter of Australiaโ€™s history. Itโ€™s a day to remember the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly taken from their families, and to acknowledge the profound, ongoing grief felt by the Stolen Generations and their descendants.
I want to pay my respects to the Traditional Custodians of the land, and to the Elders past and present. Thank you for your enduring strength, guidance, and for sharing your culture and truth with us.
Let's use today not just for words, but to listen deeper, learn more, and actively support the path toward healing and justice. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿค

A bit over a year ago, I captured this breathtaking photo ๐Ÿ“ธ, and the ancient buildings' tales are absolutely captivating, telling stories of triumph and time.

๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ OUT NOW!

The latest edition of the AIES National Emergency Response journal is out now โ€” and it's one of the strongest editions in recent memory.

Inside, you'll find thought-provoking analysis on the structural gaps between preparedness and recovery systems, a detailed look at what an Alpine Fault magnitude 8 earthquake would mean for the tens of thousands of Australians in New Zealand's South Island at any given time, and a call for a more serious and sustained public debate about how Australia prevents, prepares for, and recovers from disasters.

Alongside the big ideas, there are stories that remind us why this profession matters: the Cobram SES unit's extraordinary year of service recognised with a national award, Brisbane SES volunteers keeping 2,600 participants safe across rugged mountain terrain, and AIES members presenting cutting-edge doctoral research on the international stage.

There's also important news from across the Institute โ€” survey results shaping our strategic direction, a new Community of Practice for the education sector, Victorian Division updates, and more.

Whether you're a frontline responder, a policy thinker, a researcher, or a leader in your organisation, there's something in this edition for you.
