To look at a photograph and wonder how that same scene may have appeared 100 years ago is at the heart of Adam’s story.

The shearing shed on his property dates back to the 1860s—one of the oldest in the state. Built from sun-baked clay bricks, it stands as a quiet witness to generations of work, change, and rural life. Through his images, Adam captures the character of the shed, using light and thoughtful composition to draw attention to the details that hold its history.

When Jess Downer from Mt Barker shared her photo story idea with me — I admit, I wish I’d thought of it myself!

She was photographing a local wildlife rehabilitator, affectionately known as The Snake Lady whose home is filled with pythons, lizards… and birds. A fascinating character and a perfect subject for a portrait story.

Jess captured the story on her smartphone. And me? I made sure I captured the behind-the-scenes.

I wasn’t going to miss out.

Moments like this remind me that great stories are everywhere — and sometimes my role isn’t to take the photo, but to recognise it, support it, and watch someone else bring it to life.
