‘Beneath the Dragon’
Ascending the 500 stone steps to the limestone peak of Lying Dragon Mountain in Ninh Binh, Vietnam rewards visitors with a breathtaking view of Tam Coc valley and Mua Cave. It was late morning in July, the temperature had climbed past 30 degrees and the air was heavy. Reaching the top I paused to catch my breath and capture the natural beauty & scale of a majestic place where time slows down. Every shot slow, considered, intentional. One roll of CineStill Film 400D and 12 opportunities with my Holga 120, the perfect lightweight travel companion.
My family and I were booked on a cruise around Halong Bay, but the weather gods had other plans in mind with a typhoon expected to hit the area overnight. With some help from the lovely staff at our Hanoi hotel, and our Lonely Planet guidebook, we changed plans last minute and made our way to beautiful Ninh Binh. Arriving to expansive rice paddies, rivers and remote villages at the feet of evergreen mountains is enough to take your breath away. Our stay here at the incredible Nham Village Resort was so special, and the highlight of an unforgettable trip🌿

I have admired the work of photographer extraordinaire Lean Timms for some time, and it has been a dream of mine to attend one of her workshops. This week it finally came to be at the magnificent Lo Scoglio and it was so much more than I hoped for.
Lean is warm, generous with her knowledge of all things photography, and a natural teacher. I could listen to her talk and share stories of her travels & adventures for days.
I love the way that Lean embraces natural light to capture her stunning images and it was a thrill to watch her in action. Lean’s way of seeing the world around her resonates so deeply with me, and provides further validation that photography can be incredibly creative without a heavy reliance on the traditional, technical methods that I was taught.
Adding to the experience was the mouthwatering food prepared by Attilio Maiorano and his team from Daniela & Attilio Maiorano. Along with my wonderful and very excited workshop attendees we had the opportunity to observe and photograph the food being prepared and served.
I am so used to shooting outdoors, so this experience pushed me out of my comfort zone. I loved every minute of it and my head is racing with ideas for the future. My senses were completely overwhelmed and the experience will be front of mind for a long time to come.
Thank you Lean, Jane, our gorgeous guest speaker helloemilie and all the fellow photographers who made it happen. I will cherish our time spent together x

Capturing a little piece of local history. These images were taken at Gunnamatta surf beach on the Mornington Peninsula in January 2024, only 9 months before severe storms & heavy swells destroyed the old timber staircase 🌊
