Early in 2024 I returned to the Arctic for the first time since BC (Before-Covid), but this time it wasn’t a 100km toe-numbing expedition through in Nunavut lands in the Canadian Arctic, instead I was happily hauled through the Sámi territories of Swedish Lapland by my own team of 5 Alaskan Huskies (Enya, Edith, Cosmos, Cooper & Enzo) for a “Taste of the Fjällräven Polar Challenge” 🌲🐾. Our small team of mushers, adventures & journalists dogsledded, dodged trees, crashed, camped under the stars, ate ration-packs on the ice, and took ‘ice plunges’ in frozen lakes.

But it wasn’t all pine-tree-pinball & furry friends - and we transitioned from odyssey to opulence to wrap our adventures sampling sautéed reindeer and Arctic Char in the luxury of Väkkärä Lodge wilderness cabins @ chat to the team behind the

My all too brief experience highlighted both the challenges and rewards of dog sledding. The bond with the dogs, the endurance required, and both the serene and also fierce nature of the Arctic wilderness combined with a unique experience revolving around the environmental ethos of Fjallraven as a brand.

Keep an eye out in in the coming week or so for a rather amusing Taste of the Fjallraven Polar.

A huge thank you & , and everyone involved for this incredible journey. If you ever get the chance, this is a bucket-list must! 🐶❄️

The earlier half of this year saw a return to travel, wilderness and adventure exploration through both lens and pen, with assignments spanning the tropical South Pacific to Dogsledding in the Arctic … and much more. ”In the Heart of the Sea: Exploring the Cook Islands” is a travel feature on one of my favourite destinations, the Cook Islands, now live at Australian Geographic Adventure. 🌴📷. From Bush beer to Sea Scooter Turtle safaris, this destination article follows a whirlwind sneaky revisit to the amazing Isles of Raratonga & Atiu after a nearly ten-year absence. (& don't worry, for those who prefer tales of frozen toes or stylised pix of the latest in the motorcycle world… there's plenty more to come)

I spent most of the time at receiving evil eyes from workshop participants after telling them to switch their cameras to single shot mode to see if they really understood a sport 😬😂. Personally I hardly took a photo as I was too busy pretending I knew what I was talking about, however I snuck in a few pix of can-canning for the lens after the sun went down, just for fun. An odd angle and not what I was hoping for, but a fun pic all the same.

Last week I caught up with old and new mates to photograph trail running, mountain biking, dirt jumping & canyoning. I even ran a workshop on action photography with my long time sponsor and good mates (& co-sponsors of the workshop & jump-fest) . The week reminded me of how lucky I am, and even inspired me to crawl out of my post-pandemic-social-hiatus to post some fun ‘stuff’ again. And so here’s one snap from last week, a shot from the ridiculously hot and sweaty jump-jam where the sun finally aligned at the end of the day to offer some amazing opportunity for silhouette creativeness. Amusingly, I spent most of the workshop chatting to all the awesome riders & participants, rather than shooting, and so I’m pretty chuffed that when I pointed my lens at the action, a single star aligned.. the sun. Feel free to watch this space for further inspiration and posts on a reimagined world of creative image making in the outdoors, indoors and everywhere in between, for as long as my ‘social sharing’ mojo remains alive and kicking.

Hawaii’s Tropical waters & abundant aquatic life offered a welcome change of pace after a winter full of snow and ice. On assignment for .adventure (AGA), I hit the coasts and trails of Kona & Kohala regions to , & with an international crew of adventurous souls, all in an endeavour to discern how the new measures-up in the world of outdoor-wearables. Unsurprisingly Apple have brought to the table a top-notch piece of tech-wear with a plethora of impressive features, including a number of industry firsts. Keep an eye out for full review in AGA online & magazine. (photographed with waterproof case for )

Every time I find myself on the western flanks of Australia’s high-Alpine in , the fall off to the forested green ridges below impresses. She’s fickle out there, meaning for big days, usually at the last minute, often with more chance of wind, rime, sastrugi & white-outs than chance of powder. On a trip, earlier this season, we didn’t score… in fact we found lots of ice and whoomphing off an unstable and settling snowpack (a rarity in Oz). But that didn’t stop Ice skating the steeps in search for that single elusive wind blown turn. Good company, Full moons returns to camp and spectacular alpineglow more than compensates for when the snow gods don’t deliver. Maybe Victoria will deliver the goods… I’ll know next week as I join to document his near 700km .. and then a week later I’ll be looking at this view again. Hope the legs are up to it 😬

Having spent the past few months pretending to be a mountain man, I should pay homage to the ‘real deal’. Not only has Mike Hamill () taught myself (and a thousand others) how to self arrest a fall on an icy slope, but more importantly he has imparted crucial backcountry skills such as how to roast pine nuts over an iso-butane flame in a frozen tent for a tasty Mediterranean pasta feast. With a mere x6 Seven summits successes (yes, that means he’s stood on top of Mt Everest x6 times) along with a wee little ski to the South Pole, and a truckload of other achievements most of us only dream of, Mike has proven he should have a far larger ego than he actually does, especially for a Yankee 😁 . And so because he won’t blow his own trumpet, I’ll do it for him. Oh, and I’m only doing this obviously to get a place on a Himalaya expedition now that Mike has revealed that, unlike his Australian Alpine academy (in which I just attended), his team now offers barista made coffee at Everest base camp… I’ll have a latte thanks 😂

Ran into whilst wandering in a frozen wilderness last week. Allie has just returned from a successful summit of Annapurna 1 (8091m) ; One of most revered but dangerous 8K peaks in the Himalaya. As such, soloing blue ice at Blue Lake on a bluebird day (see what I did there :-) was a walk in the park for Allie. Good luck on your Manaslu & Dhaulagiri prep… best keep eating fish and chips if your to put on a kilo a week 😂

I spent the latter half of last week dodging snow storms (semi successfully) with and a few special guests (to be revealed in coming days). Clocking up hours on the Kosciuszko main range constantly reminds me of how insignificant we really are compared to Mother Nature. We scored some surprisingly spectacular weather for some ice climbing at Blue Lake before being rewarded with an epic full moon to illuminate our way back to camp.
