New Print Available - "Byron Bay Afterglow"
I thought I’d missed it. I’d spent the afternoon at the iconic Byron Bay Lighthouse, soaking in the sunset from above. But as soon as the sun dipped, a thought tugged at me—I had to get to the beach. So I left right away, drove down the winding road, and rushed back to Byron Beach, hoping there was still magic left in the sky.
I love photographing sunsets—especially by the ocean, or anywhere water can mirror the sky. I’d only driven down for the day, and time was short. My goal was simple: capture a Byron Bay beach sunset. Instead, I chased the afterglow.
Byron Bay is Australia’s easternmost point, famous for its beaches, surf, lighthouse walks, humpback whale migrations, and those dreamy pastel skies that seem to stretch forever. And even though the sun had set, the sky wasn’t finished. Months after the Tonga volcano eruption, sunsets were still unusually vivid—gold melting into pink, fading into blues and soft purples.
I walked onto the sand and stopped in awe. The afterglow shimmered across a still pool on the beach, doubling the colour, doubling the magic. Warm gold kissed cool lavender, clouds glowed like painted silk, and the world felt paused—quiet, peaceful, perfect.
I snapped photo after photo, barefoot on cool sand, hearing gentle waves whisper behind me. The air smelled like salt and dusk. It felt like Byron itself had held one last breath of colour just for me.
Back home, this image made everyone who saw it smile. They told me it felt calm, joyful, hopeful. And for me? It became proof that sometimes the best moments come after we think the moment has passed—if we’re willing to chase them anyway.
This coastal sunset print is perfect for beach lovers, sunset dreamers, and anyone seeking a sense of peace and clarity in their space and its available now for purchase from my Etsy store (link in comments)
