Today is WORLD TURTLE DAY !
Here are some of the Turtles that call the bay home that I have had the pleasure to snorkel with , allways a magical moment with these beautiful sea creatures . With the bay having some good sea grass beds and a sheltered environment it is a favourite with the local turtles. They do face alot of challenges and the Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary does a great job rescuing and rehabilitating them when they need assistance . So if you would like you can drop them a donation so they can continue their great work.
Some of these photos are available as mounted prints Minnie Water General Store & Cellars .

THINGS THAT STING YOU WEEK
critter no. 2 : The Mauve Stinger !
Another equally beatiful critter as No.1 ( Blue Dragon) and equally stingy . Now this is the best thing about them ,: their other name is The Purple People Eater ! Obviously named by some scientists kid ! but pretty cool , these jellyfish pack a powerful sting and leave an itchy rash that lasts for weeks with pain and they can eat you ! 😳just kidding on the last bit but maybe the kid saw something .

Today is dedicated to THINGS THAT STING YOU week !
With the constant onshore easterly swell and wind alot of stingy things are coming to visit, you may have noticed these guys washed up or in the rockpools.
Critter number 1 : The most beautiful Blue Dragon ( Glaucus atlanticus ) named after the greek GOD of the sea this little dragon snacks on blue bottles and stores their venom in their pointy bits (cerata), they float upside down on the surface thanks to a airbubble in their stomach and mimic the great white shark with their colours ( white underneath , blue on top ), Not quite as bitey . After they mate they can both go lay a string of eggs (hermaphrodites). Awesome Azure Animals ! πŸ©΅πŸ’™πŸ©΅

The most majestic Wobbegong Shark ! We have quite a few of these guys in the bay , usually having a sleep in the day and in late afternoon or when fish scraps are about they get mobile , I find they slide up to you quite close and can unintentionally scare the bajeezuz out of you ! , this one was happily following me about and stopping below me regularly , which enabled me to get the smiley face shot . Though normally harmless to humans they have been known to bite and bite like a pitbull they do ! Do not go waving any limbs closely in front of them as their eyesight is poor and they may snap and if they lock with their needle like backward facing teeth , they usually wont let go , game over for wobbegong mouth dwellers !
They give birth to live pups and tho I have seen pups I have never seen a birth and would love to and film it but I'm guessing it happens at night. I have also noticed that recently some of the local wobbies are getting rather large , so watch where you put those hands and feeties !
