What we have here is a term used in nature called "DOUBLECAMO "
The art of using one's friend , whilst one's friend is expertly camoflaging into their environment. One camoflages onto one's friend and then simultaneously they both camoflage into the environment , doubling the chances of the act of camoflage ! ....... DOUBLECAMO !
These small rays are called Stingarees and inhabit the sandy environments , they have a stinging barb and give birth to live young , about 2 at a time . So they are not very common in the bay , I’ve only seen maybe 3 over the years , so they are special , and if you look very closely you might see his buddy the Flathead doing his DOUBLECAMO thing !

Look at moi ! Look at Moi !
The fascinating eyes of this Gloomy Octopus , with thier horizontal pupils that they can move independantly and have a panoramic 360* view of the underwaterworld whilst also been able to change their colour and texture. They can also remember and reconise a person they have contact with regularly , So this one is looking at Moi im sure thinking ... hey I know you ! So I make sure to wave and give it a thumbs up each time I see it and give it a gift, maybe he will give me a thumbs up back one day or should I say tenticle up ! 🐙👍

Hydatina physis , or the brown lined rose petal bubble snail. These guys are fairly common right now and can grow up to around 75mm. They have a very delicate shell which sometimes you can be lucky enough to find washed up . They have a white egg mass which looks like a string of cotton balls . and if you see that they are usually near by ..... just cruising along like the awesome little sparkly glitter unicorns that they are !

They say you are what you eat !
Here we have 3 nudibranchs (seaslugs) and their choice of favourite soft corals to eat , A good way to spot them is to spot their food source and then observe closely with a keen scanning eye (all around 4cm) and you may just see them , but only maybe because when you look just like your food you become as one with the food !
All of these cryptic nudi’s I have spotted on the rock platform at low tide.

Phyllodesmium crypticum
Tritonia sp
I’m going to call them the Cryptic Camo Connoisseurs !

No this is not a very grumpy ball of sand , this is the little Box Crab of the Calappidae family . This little 4cm nugget was out an about on the coarse shelly sand , which is a rare sight as they usually only come out at night . He looked at me and you could see him thinking " surely she cant see me with my excellent grumpy sand ball skills " ... but I did 😂, and then to be safe he quickly dug himself into the sand with his little paddle legs and left his eyestalks out .
Even when you think an environment is without life and just bare , think again , the sea is full of wonders , you just need to slow down and look a little deeper into its world.

On these cold and windy winter days one just wants to be like a Wobby and be a lounge lizard ! ( or in this case a coral lizard ) 😴 Wobbegongs become mostly active at night when they do their hunting , in the day they are rather sluggish and become sloths , doing their best carpet impersonation , hence also known as a carpet shark. Unlike other sharks they don't have to be constantly moving to breathe , they have adapted to actively pump water over their gills using specialized cheek muscles. The white spots that you might think are decoy eyes actually are the Spiracles which are the modified gill openings to draw in the water . So I bet other sharks are jelous that they don't get to have sloth Spiracles !
