The Bombing of Darwin Commemorative Service, Northern Territory, Australia - 19 Feb 26.
The 84th anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin was remembered today by hundreds of people at a ceremony on the city's Esplanade.
On February 19, 1942, during World War II, more than 200 Japanese aircraft heavily bombed the Northern Territory capital in a surprise attack, killing up to 250 people and injuring up to 400.
It was the first time the war reached mainland Australian soil, and marked the first of about 90 Japanese raids across northern Australia over the next few years.
The images show Australian Army personnel from the 8th/12th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, conduct a battle display as part of the annual Bombing of Darwin Commemorative Service.
