Spectrum Shift – Another World

Early winter mornings, when the sun has a clear path to the horizon and its light collides with the ocean. For a brief moment, the water transforms into a spectrum of colour, creating a scene that feels more like another world than a Gold Coast sunrise.

I've been spending alot of time lately, shooting and editing for my clients and haven't had much time to catch up on my recent adventures. With any luck, I'll have some new images coming to your screens soon.

Here is a taste

I’ll be honest, I nearly didn’t make it out of bed for this one.

4am alarm set, gear packed the night before, and somehow I still managed to turn it off and almost miss it. After years of chasing sunrises and waves, you’d think I’d have that part sorted by now.

But this morning made it worth it.

After heading out from Currumbin and making the run south, Kirra started to come alive. The sets were slow to begin with, but when they came through, the whole scene lit up.

Perfect lines, golden light, and those clean backlit waves that only show up when everything aligns.

This image is called Coolangatta Gold.

I almost got the shot I was chasing… almost.

Sure, I could’ve dropped a seagull right into the centre in Photoshop… but where’s the fun in that?

When I woke up and saw a clean horizon, I knew exactly what I wanted. No clouds, no distractions. Just a pure silhouette moment.

The goal was simple. Seagulls cutting through the sun.

Pretty close, if you ask me.
Only thing… those four birds aren’t quite as sharp as I’d hoped.

But hey, that’s photography. You don’t always get perfect… you just get closer each time.

Feeling incredibly grateful.

Seeing my work installed at Gold Coast Hospital is something I don’t take lightly. Any time someone chooses my photography I’m genuinely stoked, but this project was something else.

This installation is part of the new Acute Cognitive Unit (ACU) and Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) wards, where the focus wasn’t just on filling walls, but on choosing artwork with real purpose. Hearing from the team about creating a dementia-enabling environment, and how imagery can support comfort, familiarity and orientation, was incredibly humbling.

The brief was to select work that felt realistic, relatable and calming, from sunrises and sunsets that help with orientation, to beaches and native wildlife that feel familiar and grounding. Knowing these images will help patients and families feel more at ease in what can be a challenging time means more to me than I can put into words.

Who would’ve thought all those years ago that picking up a camera would lead to my work living in spaces like this, bringing a bit of life and warmth to people across the world.

If you’ve followed my journey from day one, thank you. Your support honestly means everything. 🙏

Don't shoot during the midday sun! This was what a photographer once told me when I first started out. I think this is one of the worst pieces of advice I received or listened to when I started. Yes, the light is different, it's a different look! Just find what you want to shoot during those times. If the only time you have is during midday, then go out and shoot.

Shoot what you love!
