I had the opportunity to tour the new Somerton intermodal terminal yesterday, thanks to Intermodal Terminal Company.

I was there as a member of the AHK but also brought the camera along to capture the facilities. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the operation and see the scale of it all.

The terminal will help move more freight by rail away from the port, reducing the number of trucks on Melbourne's roads, cutting transport emissions and it is fully electric.

It's a significant investment in Melbourne's freight infrastructure, with benefits for local businesses, jobs and the wider transport network.

And thanks to Lea Weir who offered to take this group photo with me in it. It's not often I'm on the other side of the camera! It's not easy grabbing a foreign camera and getting a perfect shot like this. Great work!

The Sacred Kingfishers are making their way back to Victoria for summer.

Every autumn, these little birds head north to escape the colder months, with some travelling as far as Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.

Then in spring they make the journey back south to breed, usually arriving in Victoria around September and October.

Last Saturday was World Migratory Bird Day, which is a good excuse to share one of our favourite Australian birds.

Here's one we spotted at Woodlands Historic Park, just north of Melbourne.

So if you're out and about over the next few weeks, keep an eye out for that flash of blue and green.

It's World Maritime Day.

Sam was recently asked to be a guest speaker at an event on the ex Sea Shepherd vessel the Steve Irwin now owned by Ship for Good about his tales at sea. In 2008 he joined Operation Migaloo in the Southern Ocean just off the coast of Antarctica where he was a sound recordist for the Animal Planet documentary series Whale Wars.

While battling the Japanese coast guard, flash bang grenades, supposed stray bullets, the wild seas and some serious sea sickness, Sam gained a lot of stories to tell the grandkids.
