Biskaa Jatra-
Biskaa Jatra (or Bisket Jatra) is a vibrant, 8-night/9-day, historic festival in Bhaktapur, Nepal, beginning in mid-April to celebrate the solar New Year and the victory of good over evil. It features the dramatic pulling of chariots (Bhailakhaḥ) holding deities Bhairab and Bhadrakali, a high-stakes tug-of-war, and the ceremonial raising of a massive pole (Lingo) at Lyasingkhel.
Key Highlights of Biskaa Jatra in Bhaktapur:
Chariot Pulling: Massive chariots of Bhairab and Bhadrakali are pulled through narrow city streets, often accompanied by intense tug-of-war between the upper and lower parts of the town.
Lingo (Yosin) Raising: A 55-hand-long pole (Lingo) is raised in Taumadhi Square to signify the downfall of evil and the start of the new year.
Legend of the Serpent: The festival commemorates a legend where a prince killed two venomous serpents that were cursed to emerge from a princess's nostrils, killing her husbands.
Tongue Piercing: Similar to the Thimi celebration, this ritual is a major attraction.
Location: Primarily centered in Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Taumadhi Square. Even was organised by Newa Guthi Victoria
