What if instead of gossiping about women’s struggles, we were there to offer them a helping hand to get back on their feet?

On this International Women’s Day, I’m celebrating being part of a project called “Women’s Spirit”, where women are supported, encouraged and inspired by women.

As a mentor volunteer, I received training to support women experiencing disadvantage, not to solve their problems, but to surround them with compassion. To help them reflect on their challenges, provide a safe environment, encourage them to commit to their wellbeing, set goals, and transform their lives one step at a time.

This 10-week program, which has just started, is far more than an act of kindness. It’s a volunteer-led, not-for-profit, holistic program by women for women, creating a safe and supportive space where hopes and aspirations can come to life.Through guidance and strengths-based activities, “Women’s Spirit” supports women to recover from trauma and build confidence, resilience, and connection with others.

It’s also a program I would have benefited from during COVID, raising a baby and a toddler, grieving the loss of my father, feeling lonely and flirting with depression.

Even though I didn’t have the opportunity to be a participant back then (I only came across this program a month or so ago), I rose to the occasion and became the compassionate person I needed for myself.

Understanding how crucial connection is during challenging times, when I came across this project it was a no-brainer for me to volunteer as a mentor, receive trauma-informed training, and continue walking deeper into growth.

I’m proud of where I am today and even more grateful to be part of the Spirit of Transformation program!

Offer your support to the women who need it! Happy International Women Day!

Sunday afternoon and I’m privileged to be home alone! George has taken the girls shopping and I truly enjoy this pocket of me-time.

I’ve spent a few minutes scrolling through instagram and I shed some tears. Thankfully I have trained the algorithm to feed me with inspiring, growth-related content about parenting, women empowering and emotional intelligence.

To be a middle-aged woman means to sit a lot with myself in effort to make sense of who I really am rather who I got moulded to be. But this is not a diary entry, it’s an instagram post to wish you all merry Christmas, so I’ll keep it short.

Thea sentiment that the season demands is disproportionate. Yet we all put our smiley facades on, sucking up the discomfort, pushing ourselves to be happy and putting a great effort to make it a happy one for our kids. Although I hope kids, mine, yours and everyone’s, have a joyful Christmas, I know that impossible. Instead, something that is actually possible, we can remind them of how everyone is different and so can be their Christmas experience. Also what really matters is to have our fundamental needs met. Love and care are inexpensive. Self care can also be.

This Christmas I choose to practice some more self care and chat with my girls about it, making sure they understand what it means and why it’s essential for their future emotional wealth. Empowering them starts with empowering myself.

Self-care and have yourself a merry little Christmas. Xx

Caressing for a fawn.

A subtle reminder of childhood charm and innocence, ever-changing variables in the long run of life that currently define her.

Time is slipping away, life sometimes is.
Moments like this captured is my reward for this lively yet rushed life.

What’s yours?

I don’t know if the grass is greener on the other side but the roses are surely blooming. The question is whether you notice it or not.

Speaking of noticing.
I’m not much around this online platform or any social platform, you might have noticed. I find the noise sometimes too loud and distracting while I’m searching for clarity within myself.

But be certain, I’m creating, in motion and still. Reach out, let me know what your next project looks like and I’ll make sure you get your story told and connect with yourself, your family, your friends, your audience.

Mother’s Day today, and this last week I’ve been contemplating.
I’m sharing a personal reflection and a tribute to mothers, past and present.

Motherhood serves me a heavy load.
The mental challenges throw me off-road.

The what-ifs, the mistakes,
the unknown and the fear,
they are close, they are here,
and run the circus. Oh dear.

What if I cry my tears
and embrace my fears?
The work is triggering,
no wonder my body is fidgeting.

Old habits I burn.
I unlearn. I relearn.

With the punches I roll,
myself tight I hold.

My life I reclaim,
my soul back I earn.

I choose me. I’m invincible.
I choose me. That’s my principle.

Motherhood’s such a vast force.
Limitations or growth,
the choice is mine to reinforce.
My motherhood journey is mine.
Yours is yours,
and so are the choices you make, of course.

Happy Mother’s Day to you and your mother.

On a side note, these photos are from the archive. I was lucky enough to capture Angela and her mother, Peggy, during COVID at our friend Judith’s house.
In the first image, Angela is in her mother’s hands.
In the second, she’s holding her mother’s hand.
Peggy was 100 years old when she passed away a couple of years ago.
She was one of the first women to drive a car here in Melbourne, skilled at sewing her own clothing, and deeply fashion-oriented. She shared wonderful stories of her life with me.
It was an honour to photograph her and her daughter.
Rest in peace, Peggy.

Walking the line

It’s a picture I took of my kids and their friends in our favourite spot, the beach, during the school holidays. They’re playing this game called follow the leader where they have to walk in a straight line and be good followers.

This is actually a real life experience for us humans, isn’t?

Who am I following and with what cost? Am I even aware of being a follower and where do I get myself towards?

I don’t mean to get political. The following as an action is a can of worms.

But how this ordinary moment of the kids having fun turned into a story of rumination and retrospect?

I must have been influenced by the 70’s movie I recently watched, Clockwork Orange.

It must be that photography other than my source of income, is my way of expression.

And with all that said, happy Easter to you!
I hope it’s the light you see and follow.

Strawberry farm.

More like a walk down memory lane to my childhood. Picking fruit, then taking a lunch break, using the empty plastic crates as seats. The excitement, the taste, the boredom—it’s all there. Even the dusty, dry air in the sweltering heat of a midsummer day.

Mid week down the road.

It’s a fine summer day and the school routine has been established. Brief beach break is a lifestyle choice we have made as a family that I’m most grateful for. It has come with more compromises than you would think but worth it!

BLU with an esky, pool noodles and watermelon!

Having been born and raised in Greece, blue skies and endless seas are part of the cultural identity. Inevitably, summer has always drawn me to the beach. Beach days are the most exciting, joyful moments of the year—never boring, always filled with wonder and, of course, mouth-watering watermelon! Its vibrant color always reminds me of the countless sunburns I’ve earned over the years from poor sunscreen choices or questionable application skills!
