‘Goosebumps’

I have to thank for the awesome image title and a great weekend in early this year - do yourself a favor and check out his portfolio and follow him on IG.

I stumbled upon these snow muggles during a winter trip in 2015 and tried to frame them with Halfdome in the background but somehow this image never saw the light of the day.

2018 has been a strange year for me in regard to my photographic work: it consisted of a lot of travel, photo trips and incredible moments in nature resulting in many images but for some reason I didn’t feel motivated to finish and publish this work yet. So with 3 images posted to Instagram this year there is no for me.

I have already numerous outdoor trips planned for 2019 and look forward to catching up with many of you and to share much more of my work next year.
Happy New Year everyone!

Hi all - this year has been pretty quiet for me in terms of photographic output.

While I have taken every opportunity throughout the year to get out in nature, I have been less inclined to produce new work from my adventures. Nevertheless I have enjoyed very much to see some new places and getting a connection with them.

So it was quite exciting to have Toyota USA selecting one of my images of the Los Angeles skyline as their backdrops for their display at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Very excited to see your image printed so large in superb quality 👏

Well the results are in and I am very happy to been awarded a Silver Distinction and two Silvers with my images.
It was great to see so many stunning images being produced, the judges for sure did not have an easy task.

Thank you all who have contributed to my journey so far and have provided guidance over the years.

Hi all,

sorry I haven't posted for a long while - life has been very busy lately and I had to focus my photography efforts quite a bit and social media has suffered most.

Well today is the highlight of my photography calendar for the year as the Australian Professional Photography Awards. Today is the Landscape category where four of my images are judged as prints (!) by some of Australia’s most respected and successful pro photographers.

As every year it's a nail biter as every entrant (me included!) put his/her heart and soul into these images.

Anyway, the judging is live-streamed on YouTube around the world, so if you want sweat with me follow along here:

Landscape is being judged in Rooms 1, 2 and 3 simultaneously.

'Trusting Soul'

I captured this images a few years back on a stormy afternoon in New Zealand. I had photographed this location already for sunrise, but felt that I needed to get a closer and different perspective. So I ended up renting some waders in the local fishing shop.

'Winter View Laurel Mountain'

Last year I hiked out in the dark to this location for sunrise. Access during winter is limited to foot traffic and I was lucky that the several feet of snow were already hard and compressed as I didn't have any snow shoes. Unfortunately sunrise was a cloudy affair and I did not get any good light onto Laurel Mountain. Later during the morning there was a small break in the clouds and it created some atmosphere. The creek itself is fed by hot springs and therefore creates the steam.
This year I planned to get back for another attempt, but lack of snow and timing didn't work out.

Just finished up in the AIPP Epson VIC Professional Photography Awards, which I entered with prints in the Landscape and Travel Categories.

I cannot complain at all ending up with 2 Silver Distinction and 4 Silver!!

The judging process started a bit uneasy for me with one of my prints opening up the landscape judging and promptly bombing out with a 77!! 😯😯😯
Thank god it was complimented with the SD's.

Thank you judges so much for your great judging and valuable comments and of course Ian van der Wolde for the superb printing!

I look forward to the national competition APPA in August this year!

'The Classic'

about 2 weeks ago the Eastern Sierra finally received the snow that we have been waiting for all this winter season. I was very lucky that the timing of the winter storm allowed me to travel to Yosemite National Park right at the tail end of it and arrive in the valley early in the morning.

Every time I travel and stand at this classic 'Tunnel View' outlook, I am at awe of this landscape scene, made famous by Ansel Adam's image 'Clearing of a Winter Storm'. To see it by my own eyes and to photograph it in a fresh winter coat, was purely magical. I hope you feel the same.
