Always looking for the small things in a city, and enjoying the fight between the natural and urban world Gen has become a photographer that isn't necessarily concerned with the subject matter but how she captures it. With a background in Graphic and Digital Design Gen doesn't just search for the everyday streetscapes, urban scenes, offices and suburbia that she loves. It's about looking for somet

hing that fits an aesthetic, it's about being able to find the particular composition and being able to bring it to life with the saturation of colour, weird angles and things that the 'normal' person would walk past without even noticing. Her process is relatively natural; Gen avoids using any computer manipulation and will sometimes end up with multiple (10-20) of the same shot just to get the right colours and cropping. This, she feels makes her really think about what she's taking a photo of, but also helps her with what she wants to produce; the beauty, colourfulness (or lack thereof) and strangeness of everyday life. Sometimes even giving these usually normal situations and composition a strangely surreal feel. Gen works predominantly as a landscape, urban and night photographer, but is also starting to work as an event and live music photographer, which is helping her overcome her slight awkwardness of directing people within photos. Still wanting to focus on urban and natural landscapes Gen will soon start work people into her work to further juxtapose these compositions.

I've always had a thing for perspectives; these level crossings around Melbourne really help satisfy that love. This one is along the 96 tram line in Albert Park.

Sorry, we missed a week. Oops!! The fatigue this pregnancy has been brutal. So, trying to stay on top of things like social media whilst running around after an active toddler has been interesting.
A different angle of the Nicholas Building ceiling, isn't it beautiful? Such a great building with so many stories in its walls.

This has to be one of the best buildings in Melbourne. The building was built in 1926 and is one of the best examples of the Commercial Palazzo style in Melbourne. It now houses artists' studios, cafes, wine bars and some great clothing stores. The epitomy of Melbourne!

Just because I like these 2 next to each other on the grid, and I can't work out which one I like more. Richmond is such a great suburb to photograph in, such character!

I've always loved these simple suburban scenes, so much character and history. Unlike so many new buildings, there is texture, colour and something so inviting. I think this might have been in South Melbourne or Albert Park, wandering around on a lunch break one day.

I know it's been a while since we posted. September was chaotic with what felt like a million birthdays, events and sicknesses and our little boy's 1st birthday.
October, well, I don't know what happened, I blinked, and now it's November 🤣
Maybe we'll take you through our Urban Series, a group of photos taken around Melbourne. Starting with the glorious Flinders Street Station Clocks 😍

I’ve always been drawn to the back streets of Richmond — there’s something special about the little unexpected scenes you stumble on. Loved the light in this shot, and the layered reflection in the mirror makes it feel like a moment within a moment.

And just like that, we’ve reached the end of A Journey of Colour. I captured this one while wandering through Boston and Cambridge — the vibrant wall instantly caught my eye. I love the brightness of the scene, paired with the simplicity of everyday life. 🎨📍

One of the final shots in my A Journey of Colour series — captured near the Brooklyn Bridge while waiting for the July 4th fireworks. I love the quiet mood and subtle tones in this one — a moment of stillness before the celebration began.
