Having been told in high school that my paintbrush and general artistic techniques exhibited no hint of natural ability, it therefore may come as a surprise to some that here I am following artistic pursuits in the area of photography. Photography first became a growing interest of mine after numerous overseas travels so it was then just a matter of time that my insatiable passion for live music r
ock and metal music would merge with my growing interest in photography. Inspired for many years flicking through Metal Edge, Hit Parader and Classic Rock magazines and viewing the works of legendary rock photographers Neil Zlozower & Ross Halfin, I am fortunate enough to live in one of the rock music capital’s of the world, Melbourne, Australia. So there are certainly plenty of opportunities to develop my skills and get amongst the action in the ‘pits’. For me it's not about "who" I can photograph, sure there's an undeniable buzz standing in the pits at a major stadium gig, photographing one of the biggest rock bands in the world and feeling the electric roar from the crowd when the band takes the stage... But for me, the smaller club shows are where it's at and where most of the most awesome shots can be captured. It's where the true action really happens, flying legs, arms, beer bottles, insults and elbows...
Capturing rock and metal gigs is where it's at for me....loud music, lot's of energy up stage and ideally a strong visual presence projected by the band. But hey...I will still happily shoot an intimate acoustic gig, where there's plenty of emotion to be captured.
