It’s the furthest point we reached in the day but it was all worth it for these mating barn owls. Hidden deep inside the hollow of a tree you would be the luckiest person alive to stumble upon them. Yesterday I had a rest day between workshops and rather than sleeping I took advantage of another day in paradise and headed out to Kruger with Martin. It blows my mind again and again just how much you can find in a single day here. No chasing, no bolting around the park, just taking our time and letting it unfold.

SOUTH AFRICA - JULY WORKSHOP
No matter what you see in the bush the thrill is still there. The anticipation, the behaviour predictions, the chase with your own mind. But when all of the stars align and you have put all of your pieces in place you can be rewarded with the most incredible sights. 20 minutes earlier and he was hiding in the bushes, 10 minutes later and he was gone. The only thing you can do is lean the landscape, have the best guides (I'm looking at you Martin On Safari) and stick it out when everything looks quiet.

Thanks to our amazing workshop group this week who were superstars with their patience, perseverance and enthusiasm as we captured some of the best sightings I've had in Africa to date. This is just a little test of what I've managed to sift through in the last hour or so...

These days, most of my travel revolves around wildlife, but I think it’s just as important to photograph the people, cities and everyday moments that surround these wild places. They give context to the landscape, reveal the culture, tell stories of both joy and hardship, and remind us that the future of wildlife is inseparable from the communities that live alongside it.

This image was all about joy. A group of kids on the beach in Negombo, Sri Lanka, completely absorbed in a game of soccer as the sun slipped below the horizon. Sometimes the simplest moments say the most.

A little outing to our local wetlands this morning with the Sigma 300-600mm f/4... he's a chunker but wow how amazing to have that kind of tack sharp range in a single f/4 lens... I can feel my wallet getting lighter as I type this...

And yeah yeah yeah I photographed birds.
