We all have to have a hero or favourite shot from our night - right? I am sitting with this one as my favourite. Strong magenta beams with flashes of red and the green glow. The orange is from light pollution, but I think adds to the balance. What a great night out! :)

How the night progressed - some amazing high beams and colour!! "STEVE" even came to pay us a visit too! - for those who don't know - STEVE is short for "Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement" and whilst is not an aurora, he seems to appear along with the aurora. You'll see him the last two images - the strong white beams.
I got to enjoy the show with some other awesome photographers and it was a great time - until the clouds rolled in and put an end to it all.

Tonights Blue Super Moon.... yes, the moon is still white, yes I did take the liberty in making the white balance more blue - call it art - it's my creative licence! :P

My very first visit to this location was the day before on a motorbike ride, so for night photography I wasn't sure what I'd encounter. As suspected, too much ambient light from the pontoon walkways and the outbuildings & their flood lights. But I did see 'something' in the sky before I left and the aurora was putting on a show, just diluted by the lights and the 48% moon.
This is a good example of why you have to go somewhere 'dark' away from the light pollution to see the aurora. :)

My last location from Monday nights light show.

I was temped to drive back towards the water now the activity had fired up again, but alas I had to go to work in the morning and it was already past my bedtime. :P

I am pretty happy with having witnessed first hand the two major aurora events this year!! :)

Location Number 4 wasn't too far from home. I pulled over on the side of the road overlooking a paddock & pointed south and off she went. So bright, it was incredible to see it all with the naked eye. What an awesome experience!
