Seeing more Tawny Frogmouths (Podargus strigoides) is a really good sign, especially if habitat and food are doing okay but sharper eyes play a huge role too. Once your brain learns their shape, posture, and that “broken branch” look, you suddenly start spotting them everywhere. It’s like unlocking a new wildlife skill level.

You’re also spending more time out, slowing down, scanning trunks properly, and reading the landscape like a photographer and a naturalist now. Frogmouths haven’t changed their tricks you’ve just gotten better at the game 👀

A Boobook family of three together absolutely amazing to find them during the day while they were napping. I managed to get one in a clear view, while the other two were tucked away and not in the best spot for photos. Still, this one gave me a decent view, making the whole encounter really special. 🦉

Azure Kingfisher (Ceyx azureus)
after a few visits to Banyule Flats Reserve, I finally found two of them early in the morning. For almost an hour, it felt like a private, magical moment just for me. They came in close, not shy at all, giving me an incredible personal show. I think the mum was a bit more cautious and didn’t want to come too close.

After another two hours of flying around and showing off their hunting skills, I was joined by my fellow wildlife photographer Franciscus. An unforgettable morning with one of my absolute favourite birds.

Australian Owlet-nightjar the current superstar among birdwatchers and wildlife photographers! For a few weeks now, this incredible bird has been stealing the spotlight, and I was lucky enough to see it four times in the last few weeks. Absolutely beautiful and always a special moment each time.

White-throated Kingfisher one of Sri Lanka’s most colourful and charismatic birds. That deep chestnut body paired with electric blue wings makes it impossible to overlook, whether it’s perched proudly or calling loudly across the landscape. Always a joy to photograph.

Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) captured in the warm evening sunlight at Kumana National Park, Sri Lanka. With its long pink legs and elegant silhouette, it looked especially stunning against the golden glow. A beautiful and peaceful moment by the water’s edge.

Apostlebird (Struthidea cinerea) spotted at Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. These social birds are always fascinating to watch, often moving together as a group while foraging on the ground. Their teamwork and constant chatter make them one of the most entertaining species of the Australian bush.

Starting this year with my first post featuring my favourite bird 🐦✨
Hoping to see many more birds and wildlife throughout the year ahead. I also managed to achieve one of my goals by getting a 4×4 last December, which means more freedom to explore. Hopefully, this year brings more time, more places, and many more unforgettable wildlife encounters. 🌿📸

And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported and helped me last year, and to those who are still with me this year. Grateful to be surrounded by people who encourage and help each other chase dreams and hobbies. 🙏❤️

Hill Swallow (Hirundo domicola) I came across this beautiful swallow while at Horton Plains National Park, even as I was busy scanning the area for leopards. A lovely surprise in between the big cat searching moments.

This small, fast-flying swallow is commonly found in highland regions, often seen swooping low over open grasslands and water bodies catching insects on the wing. It has glossy blue-black upperparts and a clean white underside, with a deeply forked tail that helps with its agile flight. A true aerial specialist and a perfect fit for the cool, open landscapes of Horton Plains
