Beautiful Caitin has joined The Matrescence Project. So excited to include her story in volume two! We are well underway now and looking for any mother who wants to tell their story. Link in profile for more information.

This project was born from a simple but powerful desire:
To honour mothers.
To document mothers.
To give language to the transformation of becoming and being a mother.
We wanted to create a space where mothers could speak honestly —
Not just about their children —
But about themselves.
About identity shifts.
About body changes.
About grief for who they were.
About pride in who they are becoming.
About the invisible labour.
About the quiet resilience.
About the parts of motherhood that feel sacred.
And the parts that feel overwhelming.
So we are inviting mothers to share their stories.
Raw.
Unfiltered.
Truthful.
We are creating a collection — through portraiture and written words — that reflects the real experience of matrescence.
Not the polished version.
Not the highlight reel.
But the honest, layered, deeply human version.

It’s Valentine’s Day, lovers.

This year, I feel like celebrating publicly.
Like shouting it from the rooftops.

And there’s a good reason for that.

I found Her.

Much to my surprise —
but apparently not to the surprise of everyone who loves me.

Here I am at 43.
Divorced.
Co-parenting.
Still living with my ex-husband.

And madly in love with this woman.

So this is me.
Coming out.
And coming home.

There is something sacred about those first days.

The house feels different.
Time feels different.
You feel different.

Everything is quieter. Softer. Slower.

And in the middle of it all is this tiny human who has completely rearranged your world.

Newborn sessions with me aren’t about perfection.
They’re about presence.

About holding them close.
About noticing the way they fold into you.
About preserving the details that will change before you’re ready.

Someone said to me this week,
“We don’t really have a reason to get photographs.”
Their family was the two of them.
And I couldn’t stop thinking about that.
Why do we need a reason to capture love?
Isn’t love the very thing we’re all searching for?
Isn’t it the thing we value most when everything else falls away?
Two people choosing each other — that’s not “nothing.”
That’s not “not enough.”
That’s everything.
Photographs aren’t about milestones or announcements or ticking a box.
They’re about remembering how it felt.
The quiet in-between moments.
The way you look at each other when no one else is watching.
What other reason should there be? 🤍

A very happy New Year to you. I am so grateful for this little business of mine, and you, for following along on the Muka journey. Thank you.

She’s been a big one this year. Much has been achieved, and I am excited for what is to come in 2026!

I’ll be switching off for most of January. In and out a little but a recharge is needed.

I hope you find some quiet, and some space for celebration.

Just hold them. Hold them as tight as you possibly can, breathe them in.

I was having a conversation last night with a client about artworks. She mentioned that a painting or a drawing artwork hanging in your home might be something you grow out of, but an artwork of your family will only ever become more precious.
