This Star Trail was the last nightscape image taken during the recent Great Ocean Road Workshop. Located at Thunder Point, Warrnambool, it's a combination of 21 exposures of the stars at 2 minutes each. I then lit up the foreground with large LED lights but ultimately I didn't use it. I found the lit foreground just wasn't looking natural and instead used a previous test image I'd shot at a higher ISO that worked much better.

I'll also be announcing new 2027 workshops and 2028 tours in the coming weeks.

Incredibly, this was my first time down the Gibson Steps to the beach. Previous attempts have be thwarted by closed gates, rough seas or just outright crap weather. But finally things lined up during my recent Victoria Tour and a few of us ventured onto the beach for dawn.

While searching for an image in my Lightroom catalogue, I stumbled across an entire nightscape shoot I had done but never processed. This was shot in August 2025 at a farm near Newstead in Victoria. I remember this night was a bit of a nightmare with a series of flat batteries and equipment issues while capturing a timelapse. I must have never gotten back to my star trail images after the time-lapse failure until my discovery a few days ago. I'm glad I got this out of the vault.

Port Fairy Lighthouse captured over the years 2026, 2024 and 2022. Always a favourite to return to but unfortunately never really lines up well for nightscape and way too much light pollution for a descent Milky Way. But still makes a great sunset shot.

No moon, clear skies and a few days off work resulted in my overnight adventure to Colbinabbin, Victoria. I met a very helpful local farmer who kindly allowed me to spend most of the night on his property.

It was a fairly complex shoot running one Sony A7Rm5 camera on the Polaris and my second A7Rm5 on my Syrp Genie 3 axis motion slider at the same time.

Once the time-lapse was finished I shot a few Milky Way panorama's before moving on to the local church for 2 star trails, one in landscape orientation and one in portrait for social media.

What little hours of darkness were left were spent sleeping in the car before 2 final time-lapse at the grain silo.

A long but rewarding and satisfying night.

By chance some years ago, I met Vanessa in Sea Lake. Turns out she is quite a skilled fire dancer and happily agreed to display her craft at Lake Tyrrell recently.

The Twirling fire over the Salt Lake reflections is enhanced by the twilight sunset.

A quick catch during my Victoria Salt to Sea Tour. Sunset at Tom and Eva lookout. F22 just as the sun touches the horizon gives the sunstar effect. I'm heading back there soon with another short tour group. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for being a top engager and making it on to my weekly engagement list! πŸŽ‰ Keith Darwin, Eric Wilkes, Richard Tatti
