I was looking for the robins at Plenty Gorge recently. Could not find any after 4 hours. All I got were these kangaroos sunning themselves in the winter sun.

Huanglong.

Famous for its wide variety of colourful pools and natural ponds which are said to shimmer like a "yellow dragon". The colours of the ponds are caused by the calcium deposits in the water.

On the day we were there, it snowed and it was freezing cold. High altitude of some 3500m was a great problem for walking and climbing.

Interestingly, I found some birds on the hill side.

WE took the bullet train back to Chengdu after a late lunch.

We left Chengdu the next day for Hong Kong, and then Melbourne with Cathy Pacific.

We had a great China tour with 10 other beautiful people, and a lovely and knowledgeable national guide and local guides. WE shall definitely go back to visit China again.

We travelled from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou by bullet train. It took 2 hours.

The Nine Villages Valley is probably China's best National Park.

I am surprised that the transport within the National Park is not EV yet.

Giant Panda at the Panda Conservation Centre.
This centre has changed totally from the one we visited 10 years ago.
It is so vast, and the display was excellent.
At the end of the tour, we were greeted by a mother panda bear playing with her baby. That was the highlight of the trip.

Chengdu.
We visited the busy People's Park, had the tea ceremony, and the Marriage Corner. Last stop was the Wide and Narrow Alley, a favourite tourist destination.

An interesting thing is the popularity of cleaning your ears for 20 Yuan.

Chengdu is also famous for "changing faces" opera.

Tianmen Mountain. The gateway to heaven.

At about 1300m, it is the highest naturally formed arch in the world. To reach the fantastic landmark, one must walk up 999 steps on the "stairway to heaven". The road leading up to the bottom of the Tianmen Mountain has 99 bends.

WE used cable cars and eco bus along the narrow bends, and the tunnel escalators to reach the Tianmen arch.

The magic of the whole project is the Tunnel escalators. There are 7 sections built inside the mountain! We travelled 5 sections to reach the base of the "stairway to heaven". Another 2 sections to reach the summit!

That is an amazing engineering feat!
