Some special underwater footage of the great Australian Humpback Whale Migration. JUST WOW… being in the ocean with the whales jumping in the air & swimming towards us then having them dive underneath was a surreal experience to say at the least.
Starting soon, around 40,000 humpback whales will swim from Antarctica up the east coast of Australia to the breeding grounds of the Great Barrier Reef, Hervey Bay, Whitsundays and Fraser Island. (Warmer up here for breeding, and away from predators like the Orca)
Then they head back south around August/Sept. Back in Antarctica by December with the babyyyyy whales☺️🩷 That’s a round trip of 10,000km.
Fun conservatory fact I learnt:
• In the 1960s there were only a few hundred whales. Now there is around 40,000☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️ Apparently this is one of the greatest marine conservative recoveries. Thank you International Whaling Commission commercial whaling ban.
📷 📍 Footage taken off the coast of Tweed Heads / Cooloongatta, NSW, Australia. Glad I went to the shops the day before to buy this digital underwater camera😆 Was honestly just winging it and hoped I knew how to use it when I jumped in the water. (.cameras)
