Our final goodbye to Vancouver Island… 🥲🇨🇦

After spending so much longer here than we ever planned, it was finally time to leave Vancouver Island and carry on with our trip across Canada…

We’ve absolutely loved our time here and every new place just made it harder to go!

This definitely isn’t goodbye forever though. We already know we’ll be back one day! ❤️

Where should we make sure we visit next? Comment below! 👇

Our first Sunshine Coast sunset… 😱🇨🇦

People kept telling us that the sunsets on Canada’s Sunshine Coast were something special, so we were very excited to finally see one for ourselves…

And yeah… they weren’t wrong! 😂

Watching the sun drop over the water on our first evening there was a pretty perfect introduction to the Sunshine Coast 😍

Do the sunsets here get better? Comment below! 👇

We saw our first snake in Canada… and James was NOT ready 😳🇨🇦

We spotted it in Powell River on the Sunshine Coast and, at first, we were just excited because it was the first snake we’d seen since arriving in Canada!

Then it started slithering towards James… and suddenly the excitement disappeared pretty quickly 😂

Do snakes in Canada ever make you jump, or are you completely used to them? Comment below! 👇

Why are these peppers PURPLE?! 😱🫑💜

We found these at a little farm shop in Powell River, grown locally by Terra Nostra Farm, and we actually had no idea peppers could look like this…

Apparently some pepper varieties naturally develop that deep purple colour, but we still need to know… do they taste any different?

Have you ever tried a purple pepper before? Comment below! 👇

Wait… grizzly bears can SWIM to Vancouver Island?! 😳🐻🇨🇦

Apparently grizzlies on the Sunshine Coast can swim across to Vancouver Island, which James absolutely did not realise was a thing… 😂

Josie was slightly less shocked, but still… the idea of a grizzly just casually swimming that distance is wild!

Did you know grizzlies could make that crossing? Comment below! 👇

Our first impressions of Canada’s Sunshine Coast… 😱🇨🇦

After two months exploring Vancouver Island, it finally felt very strange to be leaving it behind…

But arriving in Powell River also felt like the start of something completely new, because this is where our journey across Canada’s mainland properly begins!

Our first impressions? Beautiful coastline, a slower pace, loads of history and another part of BC that already feels like it deserves more time than we planned 😂

Campbell River & Strathcona 🫎🏔️

Not only was this part of Vancouver Island absolutely magical, it also marked the place where we had to say goodbye to the Island (for now)… which hurt more than a breakup 💔

We had such a good time exploring this region, and we decided that swimming in as many freezing cold spots as possible was a good idea… including the Oyster River Potholes and Myra Falls ❄️

Within just 48 hours, we somehow managed to experience snow-capped mountains, forests, rushing waterfalls and coastal inlets. This part of the Island really does have a bit of everything 🩵

We also ate some pretty delicious salmon, which felt like a must considering Campbell River is the self-proclaimed Salmon Capital of the World 🐟

And then there was Elk Falls Suspension Bridge… where Josie’s fear of heights very much lost the battle 😳

This might be one of our favourite swimming spots we’ve found in Canada… 😍🇨🇦

Myra Falls in Strathcona Provincial Park was unreal...

Clear water, waterfalls, mountains and the kind of setting that makes you want to jump straight in… even if the water is absolutely freezing! 😂

It was so good that even Josie got in, which says a lot 👀

Would you swim here? Comment below! 👇

Could you do this if you were scared of heights? 😳🇨🇦

We crossed the Elk Falls suspension bridge near Campbell River, and for Josie this is basically her worst nightmare… 😂

It’s high, it moves, and you can see straight down beneath you… not exactly ideal when heights are your biggest fear! 👀

Would you cross it, or absolutely not? Comment below! 👇
