“Crimson Cosmos”

After 11 years of chasing and capturing the southern lights here in Tasmania, I finally made it up to the top of Hartz peak to watch and witness this incredible phenomenon, 11years of waiting for the right conditions the right drive to do this and it finally paid off.

Turns out it’ll probably be my last Astro shoot…. just for a little while of a break until I get everything in my life running smooth and in order! From now on aurora will be from home with my family who is the absolute most important thing in this world!! This last trip out certainly has been an eye opener and a BIG message.

We sure are lucky here in Tasmania to be able to see this from either our front door step or a short drive to some of the most majestic scenery our world has to offer.

Also a big shoutout to for this premium quality microfibre photographer cloth, it’s nice and big but not too big and will clean those lenses with only a few wipes.

My take on the Lunar eclipse (AKA Blood moon), all of these shots were only possible whilst using the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM I started off the night down on waterfront, shooting the almost moonrise, I then made my way up to the top of Mt.Wellington joining the abundance of others admiring the one and only blood moon for the year.

Whilst the clouds decided to coer the moon i ture d the camera pointing towards Orions nebula.

The RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1l is usm lens is an amazing piece of glass! Giving you enough reach to not startle animals in their daily dealings. This bit of kit is sure to make to my inventory before long, the elements of the lens that stand out to me is the sharpness and quality of the images, it’s well built and zooms ever so fast and smooth, whilst focusing super fast especially when paired with the Canons R5 mark ii body.

After a bit of organising have sent out a couple of Rf lenses for me to check out and have a play with.

This is the first of the lenses the Rf 50mm f/1.2L USM this fast little lowlight beast is tack sharp, with gorgeous clarity. The bokeh that this lens offers absolutely sets it aside from other lenses giving a dreamy soft feel to the images but in this case i’ve utilised the lowlight for some Astro in some of Tasmania’s beautiful dark skies which made the perfect subject for this light absorbing piece of glass.

I’ve got some portraits coming up soon that I’ll post using this same glass.

Well that was an action packed weekend for something completely different and out of the norm for me. I’d love to say a massive thanks to Mark from in hobart for giving me the invite to the Redbull Harldline event! It was an absolute blast!!

Shame the weather gods had different ideas about Sunday which ended up cancelled, but everyone had a great time nonetheless.

Also a huge shoutout to Mark and the team from for providing me and the others with some AMAZING! Canon gear whilst there, also lunch and shelter from that lovely drizzly rain and the great supply of . You guys were very accommodating and knowledgeable with your gear settings where to shoot and how certainly can’t wait for the next event I’ll definitely make it a goal to be there.

We went for a drive yesterday to take the boys out to stretch there legs and have a little bbq, and figured I’d take the camera as I had some info to find some feathered friends.

We had a look around and finally found these beautiful (sleepy) Tawny Frogmouth snoozing in a tree.

~ FUN FACT~
The Tawny Frogmouth are commonly mistaken for an Owl, (I’m guilty myself for thinking so a fair while ago). But they’re actually part of the Nightjar family.

A big thanks to , for the hot tip on location!
