I visited the Alice Springs Beanie Festival again this year, around 20 years after my first visit, in the pre-iPhone days, I was in Alice Springs on the SWIRL program and happened to stumble across the most wonderful festival. It was completely my kind of place.

Over the years I returned three more times, drawn back by the colour, creativity and sense of community.

This year marked the festival’s final event, so I made the trip once more to immerse myself in an array of colour and texture. I attended workshops, explored some local sights, and appreciated Alice Springs in a way I probably didn’t 20 years ago after a night of singing “This S**t Is Bananas” at Melanka’s!

It was wonderful to visit again. I felt safe at all times, enjoyed chatting with locals and visitors, received plenty of comments on my colourful attire, the wool coming out the top of my beanie (my hair 😂) and had a wonderfully relaxing weekend.

Thank you, Beanie Festival, for the memories. 🧶❤️

I had so much fun working with the students at Mathoura Public School to create this colourful new mural above their bubble taps 🌈🐢🐟🦆
We went with a theme inspired by the amazing animals that live in and around our local rivers, and the students absolutely nailed it with their creative drawings. I loved bringing all of their ideas together into one big playful artwork full of colour and character 💚
