Steamfest 2024

What can I say? I love this celebration of old technology which paved the way for our world today. To see, in person, the creations from early last century (and earlier) is always marvellous.

Alas, this year for the train race, I was not up in the air. Someone else was lucky enough to have won that prize and I can only imagine (and recall with great whimsy) how elated they felt yesterday.

I waited with my son and partner near Maitland station for the planes and trains to arrive from the Great Race. I was very happy to see that the Tigermoth was declared the winner of this year's race.

I am looking forward to next year.

We have had a few storms pass through in the last couple of weeks. This is one that passed by us here in Telarah, we got the outskirts of the rain but not much more. It was certainly pretty though!

Solar Eclipse as seen at Bathurst, NSW, Australia - 20th April 2023

A month of planning, days of watching the weather forecast to find somewhere without rain, new filter and lens adapter for the camera, over 10 hours of driving over the space of 2 days, several hours of editing: This is the final result.

What seems like a simple image took a whole lot of behind the scenes work. This is one of those images I have dreamed about capturing all of my adult life.

While not as spectacular as what they got in WA, I was amazed at what I saw and surprised at just how normal the sun and the sky looked while standing in a park in Bathurst. You couldn't even see the moon, it just looked like a sunny day with a beautiful blue sky.
