Some moments in nature you just can’t plan… and honestly, that’s the best part of it.
Standing there watching this scene unfold, I was convinced that one stubborn cloud was going to ruin the whole shot. Thought the morning was a write‑off. Boy was I wrong… lol.
Nature had other ideas — the light broke through, the colours exploded, and everything lined up in a way you couldn’t script if you tried. These are the moments that keep me chasing sunrises and waiting for that perfect break in the sky.
Grateful I was there to catch it.
More to come.

Here’s a little sneak preview from the other morning’s sunrise mission at Nobby’s Beach, Newcastle. Just a taste of what’s coming — the colours were unreal, and the Canon picked up every bit of it.
I’ve got a whole batch of shots I’m working through, and some of them turned out better than I expected. Can’t wait to share the rest once they’re polished up.
More on the way soon.😉🤙😁

What an epic little getaway we just had up at Umina! These drone shots are only a handful of the ones we grabbed over Pearl Beach, NSW and Umina, NSW — honestly, the place is pure magic from the sky.
We’re back home now, but I’ll be dropping some more absolute bangers soon… especially the sunrise shots I snapped the other morning at Nobby’s Beach, Newcastle, NSW with the Canon. That morning light was something else.
Feeling refreshed, grateful, and loving this well‑deserved break. Making memories, baby! Yew!!!

Did anyone else try filming the lightning tonight? In this video you can see exactly why photographing lightning is nowhere near as easy as it looks. The lightning appears, disappears, and if you blink… you’ve missed it. That’s the whole challenge and the whole thrill.
This video was about five minutes long, but I trimmed it down to the good bits so it doesn’t drag on.
Now, take that split‑second flash and try capturing it in a panoramic shot made up of roughly 22 individual images... That’s when things get really interesting. Timing, patience, and a bit of luck all have to line up at once.
Just sayin 😉🤙

Did anyone else catch the lightning show over Gillieston Heights and Maitland tonight? The clouds weren’t as furious as some of our past storms, but wow! Mother Nature still put on a dazzling display.
Flickers, forks, and flashes of lightning light up the sky. Hope someone else was watching with a cold drink and a front-row view.
Feel free to share your shots or stories—this one’s from my drone lens, Eugene Koen Photography. 😉🤙

I know this is a bit different from my usual posts, but I believe this cause is amazing, and much needed across the entire globe.
Hearts and Hands Community Development is powered by volunteers who genuinely care. One of their standout initiatives—Umbrella Hearts – OR4CPa (Orange Ride for Child Protection Awareness)—is all about starting a conversation this country desperately needs: protecting kids from abuse.
I’m backing this because the numbers are heartbreaking. In 2020 alone, over 205,000 Australian children were involved in abuse notifications. That number keeps rising. For me, one child harmed is one too many. It’s NOT okay—and it’s time we said so, loud and clear.
This ride isn’t just an event. It’s a movement. A chance to stand together and say:
It’s NOT okay to harm a child—not today, not tomorrow, not ever.
We still believe in the old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” We are that village. And we’re rising together to protect our kids.
Silence and ignorance are the shields abuse hides behind. By raising awareness, we can break through that silence, create real change, and build a future where children are safe, supported, and free to thrive.
If you’re reading this and thinking, “What can I do?”—start by sharing the message. Join the ride. Talk about it. And if you want to support, donate, or get involved, you can do that too.
Visit www.heartsandhands.net.au to learn more, get in touch, or help spread the mission.

Yesterday’s flying adventure started with high hopes and an early alarm. I headed out to Rathmines with the drone, chasing that perfect sunrise. The app said 05:50am was the sweet spot to launch for the 06:10am light show—just enough time to find the right angle.
But nature had its own agenda. There was this one stubborn cloud parked right where the sun was meant to rise, like it had hit snooze and decided to sleep in. I flew around for nearly an hour, waiting for the sun to finally peek out from behind it. And just as it did, battery levels dropped. That’s photography for you. You plan, you wait, and sometimes the moment slips past while the gear gives out... Nevertheless, got some okay-looking shots of Rathmines...

Still, the day wasn’t lost. I wrapped things up with a golden hour flight back in Maitland, and the light was absolutely spot on. A slow start, but a strong finish

Nature’s encore never misses… and last night, it was in full form.
