Let’s get real ;)

I struggle to talk about myself haha but I’m going to give it a go here. I would love to take you back to where it all started, I mean, back in my much younger days, way back before smart phones, I had to go and develop my pictures at the local Kodak store. I think my first pictures I have was from year 8 or 9, there was a group of us young kids hitting it at a Pizza Hut Restaurant - I’ve got photos of us eating large amounts of pizza, smiling and having a good time, then more photos trudging through the local shopping center just acting like hooligans, getting pictures in front of some of the stores. I guess you could say, that is where my passion for capturing moments started. Over the following years, pocket cameras started getting better and changed to digital, so pictures taken would get stored directly onto an xd card, and I was able to download onto my dad’s computer. I think it was a rare occasion if I didn’t have my camera on me. I even took up a job with George FM in New Zealand whilst living there. I’d head out to events at nightclubs and capture people having fun. I didn’t get paid for this work, just merely reaped the rewards of being able to attend super awesome gigs for free and meeting fun and interesting people.

It wasn’t until the birth of my first child that photography took a turn for the better for me. I hired and absolutely amazing birth photographer to take pics at the birth. The pictures that I have are absolutely priceless and I cherish their mere existence. So much goes on in labor, and I can tell you now that I was not really “present” at mine. My eyes were shut and I was escaping my reality with the gas every time a contraction was coming. So, to be able to view my life as it were in those moments and then to have my beautiful little Ava’s arrival captured is just something I am so grateful to have been able to receive. My partner is also an avid photographer, he loves the outdoors and landscapes, whereas I’m more your people person. Without him, none of this would be achievable for me, he’s pretty dang awesome. So there you have it, a little snippet into my world as it were and how I got here. I love all things, bump, birth and beyond - families, pets etc. Oh, and one last thing, I do like to keep my rates super low, and I offer all photos to you in my packages, so no hidden charges. Just one flat fee because I like to keep things simple. I look forward to hearing from you :) Melissa x
