Been awhile. Lots of nothing seems to happen in my space. Trying to break out and do something different - not too different . So I have tried 'Car Camping'. Where you go camping or caravanning without a tent or a caravan and you actually sleep in the car. Mine is just large enough for me to stretch out and sleep. I had a Lithium battery installed by Mark in Sawtell (Cheryl's husband) and a fridge (given by Kim ) to me for being a good boy, brought a mattress, an electric blanket and set off into the cold of middle NSW. Cold it got down to -4 but did hit -5 for a bit, car was comfortable and slept OK. The places I visited were lovely and in the end panoramas seem to be the order of the day. No frost - again so disappointed in that. Managed to scoot over to Sawtell and spend a night with Cherie and Mark. These are some of the shots - more to follow and even some shots of the back of the car.

I went down to Coffs Harbour last week and stayed with my Neice Cherie and her husband Mark. The stay was great but for the first time in a long time I was unable to take any photos at all. But I did made up for it on the way home. I took, as is my want, back roads and wound my way toward home. I had left at 5am (again my usual choice) but it was after watching England win a World Cup game. By 9am I was hungry and wanted coffee. I was for an odd reason fixated on a bacon sandwich, and finally came to town that has a cafe named PitStop Cafe. I stopped, ordered a coffee and bacon sandwich. I also asked if I could take photos of the unquine cafe they said yes. The photos are attached but when I left I spoke with manager and said the coffee was great but the bacon sandwich was indeed so good I couldn't remember in my whole life having a better one. The town is Woodenbong in NSW - not too far south of Rathdowny and I can absolutly recomment this cafe.

A few Rock n Rollers from the Rise Village took themselves off to the Cooly Rocks Festival to mix and admire other rockers and rollers, and in particular the Logan Village Rockers where we all take lessons each week. Particularly lovely about this event is that while it is a renowned beach (Coolangatta) there was very little ‘skin’ to be seen. Oh no - instead it was elegant ladies fully dressed in bright flared dresses with lots of petticoats, bobby socks, shiny shoes, shaped sunglasses and bright red lipstick. The gentlemen, while not so brightly attired, looked splendid with their high turned up jeans and sometimes matching shirts. There are plenty of different styles of Rock n Roll and they were all there to be seen – even Cowboys complete with hat and boots showed how it’s done in the country. But the things they all had in common were the smiles while dancing, skirts twirling and guys spinning with great rhythm and timing, their enthusiasm for the music and dance and just being ‘in the moment’ was obvious. But while the bands played long and loud, other attractions were the vintage cars parked along the street, mostly shiny in the sun proudly dusted down by their owners. The ‘party’ lasted until late and the music eventually faded and the tired rockers took themselves off …. to the bars for even more …. go the rockers!!

A short 3.5hour drive south the cooler temperatures of Autumn in the area from Tenterfield to Armidale turns the deciduous trees from their summer green to autumn reds and yellows. The early farmers in the area had the foresight to plant rows of these trees leading into their farms (for wind breaks rather than colourful entrances I’m sure). Councils lined roads and streets with these trees that now stand tall, proud, beautiful and very colourful against the colours of the fields and buildings. These trees are now a major tourist attraction and of course caravanners and photographers alike drive there to enjoy this colourful change, to take photos of these trees and buildings and are a major contrast from the local unchanging gum trees. I’ve been down twice to look and record in my own way this colourful season and admit I was in fact a couple of weeks too late and missed the early part of the colourful splashes that are dotted throughout the landscape. I also missed the major attraction of the Gostwyck Chapel just outside of Yralla that is covered by red ivy, but when I got there only 16 leaves were left! Not really but the photos I took still look (my option) worth the 6-hour drive. Cooler temperatures and winds of course but well worth the effort and drive.

Rain Stops Play! The Rise photo group were due to visit Brisbane City to take architectural shots for the day. It was predicted to rain all day and most of the group made the sensible decision to stay at home. Wayne and I however decided to go and we got some shots. There are great shots to be had in the wet weather and those who didn't go missed out and this will not happen again, I will 'bully' people into going if need be as a great day was had, yes we got rained on, yes there was some standing around, yes we 'had' to drink coffee but yes we both got some great shots. I have too many to show here today so I'll post some more tomorrow. There are actually a few architecture shots but mostly 'street' stuff.
Rain Equals umbrellas, and there are some colourful ones to be seen, a coffee cart waiting for customers, yes the architectural shot, people travelling up an escalator and the movement makes it interesting (I like this one), a bus travelling at speed racing the lady with the pram ....

What a trip. Went to Tenterfield hoping for -3 and got only -1. Also promised some frost, got none. These therefore are these are the shots I got. In no particular order. The silhouette I like with the sun coming up the band of colours behind the black trees. The shot of the trees lining the street is an ok shot but it look more interesting at the time - no cars it's just after 6am. The lady in the coffee shop window was lovley, nice coffee and admit I had a potatoe pie at 8.30am!! Me kicking leaves as no one around and no one with me so I did it. This falling down rail bridge allowed my some licence to give it an aged look and feel. The next 3 are just landscapes with something yellow covering in the field, the stand of trees was interesting and some refelcting water. Drove home slowly on back roads, nice day, cold but no frost!

Almost done with the Autumn Leaves trip - 1 more group of trees to show but first these 'odd things' I saw along the way (the photos are in particular order). At Glen Innes there was a Celtic Gathering that night but I couldn't stay but did manger to take these photos of the people in the street listening to a Pipe Band (?) (the real band was playing that night), 2 piece group with a guy playing the spoons, people watching them play the spoons there were cattle with large horns - not a usual sight in Australia, a cattle truck going to pick the next lot of steaks to feed the world, 2 waterfalls, and a couple of photos that I blurred on purpose. People eating ice cream and a small church with a toilet for .... well who knows? There are others but this is enough. Thanks for watching.

Another batch of trees from my visit to the hinterland last week. Took some finding these trees as most of them had dropped their leaves already. I spoke to others and they said they had left the visit a bit too late - so now have booked into the diary for next year to get there earlier. Anyway the Poplar trees were obviously planted a long time ago and this batch were on a farmer's land, but the gate was open so I saw it as an invitation to go in.

Still the same day as the Ebor trip. This area was where I actually got lost between Glen Innes and Ebor. Took a back road that looked easy - but not! It was nearly a couple of hours to find my way out, but the reward was getting the first panorama, desolate, open, windy, hard and beautiful. The second panorama - direct opposite with lush grass, gentle hills and nice clouds, welcoming really, this one on the Falls Road between Rathdowney and Tenterfield. A really interesting road and I'll be going back to this.
