It’s crazy to think I actually haven’t done an introductory post about myself for my socials yet - so here we go!

For those who are new here or don’t know me, my name’s Rochelle and I’m an aspiring fantasy author from the Blue Mountains in NSW, Australia.

I first started writing when I was a kid, and actually finished my first novel in my teens! That story has been shelved for a long time, however I do have plans of returning to it sometime in the future.

In 2019 I would begin working on what is currently my true debut novel - meaning that it has been edited and queried to literary agents.

But when I’m not writing, I love to do photography/videography, garden, take roadtrips, collect crystals, and name my cichlids ridiculous things like Dr Evil, Cotton Eye Joe and Healthy Harold 🤣

Sent out my second batch of queries (still doing half a dozen at a time) and after receiving more rejections, I went back to my query letter for revisions.

Silly me wanted to stand out by getting creative with my opening 😅 however I think it was doing a disservice…agents probably took one look at it and went, “Girl I know you wanna be different but get to the point” 😬 so that has been my major focus: get to the point, be clear, and create intrigue with the story, NOT the opening line.

My summary of the book in the letter underwent heavy changes to better reflect the core of the story. Hopefully I now have a much stronger and more professional query package! 👏🏻

On 13/3 I began querying book 1 “Assembly of the Elements” and received my first rejection response yesterday.

It’s important to note that rejection is part of the process, so one is no biggie, especially being from my first batch sent out.

I’ve also recently found out just how slim of a chance I have being picked up as a debut author - not only querying a 120k word novel, but one of a series which, on top of THAT, surpasses a trilogy 😅

I will still go ahead with querying, however I’m deciding to PIVOT! my strategy 🙂 by getting a true stand-alone prepared, which has been in development since last year (thank goodness, lol) and the great thing about this particular story is it’s mentioned briefly in the prologue from “Assembly of the Elements” so there’s a nice little tie-in there 😉

It may take more time, but time will pass by anyway, so I might as well make the most of it.
