I recently photographed the launch of Nick Bendel's new book, The 500 Lunches Effect, at Cargo Bar in Darling Harbour.

The book grew out of Nick's experience of having lunch with 500 strangers. It is about social courage: choosing to act even when you might be judged, rejected or feel uncomfortable.

More than 100 people came along to celebrate with him. I arrived early for portraits of Nick with the book, then photographed the conversations, speech, crowd reactions and one very big group photo. There was even a magician, Jackson Aces, to finish the night.

It was a warm, energetic event and a lot of fun to photograph.

’ve been lucky enough to work with Romba for about five years now. They’re a fantastic family-owned business specialising in civil construction and landscaping.

This project was particularly special photographing the Richard Murden Reserve playground, a park my own kids love to play in.

We even captured some video with my daughter enjoying the playground. She started off a little camera shy, but once she settled in it turned into a really lovely moment to document.

It’s pretty special photographing a project built by a long-term client in a place my own family enjoys.
