Submerged Images Tasmania

Submerged Images Tasmania Danny Lee is an internationally awarded underwater photographer from Tasmania, Australia. Enjoy!

The pristine waters of Tasmania contain some rare and beautiful sights! I endeavour to capture their beauty in photo's that you the viewer may like to see on your wall. We have some of the best temperate diving in the world right here and I hope that my pictures might showcase that in some small way. I have included some shots from various places I have visited overseas as well, just in case you are more fond of the tropical species!

I always love finding something while diving in Tasmania that I haven't seen before! This was one of those times. I believe this is a Sea Bunny Nudibranch (jorunna sp. ?) Which I found at the entrance to the large split on the eastern side of 'the Rock' in Waub's Bay, Bicheno.
This little fella was just under 20mm in size and considering my eyesight, it was a miracle I found it at all. 😂👍

It's always nice seeing where my photo's end up! This one is probably only a couple of kilometres from where the photo was taken. 😜👍

We love showcasing talented local artists on our walls — a big thank you to Danny for his incredible work.

On a recent dive in Waub's Bay, Bicheno I found this cool little Clown Nudibranch (Cerotosoma amoenum) cutting through some spiky patch of reef like a lawn mower. I went back the next day, and found it again about a metre away from where I first found it. So cool!

HMAS BRISBANE (Wreck dive)

I had my first visit to one of Australia's premier wreck dive sites today, the ex-HMAS Brisbane which was scuttled off the coast near Maloolaba in Queensland in 2005. The hull of the ship sits in the sand in a depth of about 27m while its highest point sits just 6 metres below the surface, and is a magnet for a huge variety of marine life. The video will show a few of the species and sights that we came across on a couple of morning dives.

Huge thanks to Grace (dive leader) from and the rest of the team for such a great morning in the salt.

I will have some photos to share when I get home and have time to do some editing.

Here a few more shots of one of the most handsome male Seadragons I have seen in quite a while. I figured the egg laden tail deserved to be featured on it's own. By now those hundreds of eggs will have hatched and a new generation of dragons will be trying to survive on the reef. As juveniles they are incredibly fragile and tiny and it always surprises me that some successfully reach maturity, and are not snapped up as fish food beforehand. Incredible creations!

Whenever I find a Weedy Seadragon I always try to look for unique compositions when taking photos while they weave their way through the kelp. Here, a small gap in the kelp showed a glimpse of the bright pink eggs that this one was carrying just as it's head came into view.

I am remembering this beautiful swim out behind Merricks reef in the Tasman Sea off St Helens. These three Common dolphins absolutely rocketed past me, coming from nowhere out of the endless blue.
