And just like that, my first season in the Antarctic Peninsula has come to an end. It’s hard to put into words. Antarctica is intense, beautiful, and challenging in ways I’m still making sense of but I am beyond grateful for every moment, every lesson, and the people who made it what it was.

Excited to get home to friends, family and the fur babies and take the time to reflect and let it all settle.

Till next season, Antarctica 🩵

The Minke definitely deserved a permanent spot on the grid!

Antarctica is absolutely teeming with whales right now, and I’m not complaining one bit 🥹🩵🐋

Captured from the top deck while we were stationary this curious Minke swam back and forth under the ship six times, with our guests eagerly following along on foot 😅

One of the largest leopard seals I have laid eyes on followed by a more cautious juvenile peering above the surface.

Most of my encounters with leopard seals have been in New Zealand so it was a real treat to see them surrounded by ice!

Yesterday, our little town experienced something extraordinary. Orcas brought together a community in a way that few other animals can. Over two hundred people young and old, wildlife lovers and casual observers alike, came out to witness their magic from shore.

There’s something indescribable about seeing orcas in the wild. They command attention, evoke awe, and reconnect us to the natural world.

Yesterday was more than just a day of watching whales. It was a celebration of the extraordinary power of nature to uplift, to unite, and to heal. Here’s to moments like these, where we pause, come together, and let the wild show us what truly matters.

There will be more to come from this encounter but I enjoyed these as a set and I hope you do too.

Early season in Antarctica is the best time to play with high key photography with the pristine snow.

Meet the Gentoo!

As climate change reshapes the Antarctic ecosystem, Gentoo penguins are emerging as “winners” among their feathered counterparts.

Unlike Adélie and Chinstrap penguins, which are more dependent on sea ice and krill, Gentoos are highly adaptable.

Their diverse diet, ability to forage in open waters, and preference for ice-free breeding grounds give them an edge as warming temperatures reduce sea ice coverage.

However, this success story comes at a cost to other species. Adélie and Chinstrap populations are declining in some areas, struggling to adapt to shifting ecosystems and prey availability.

While Gentoos expand their range further south, their rise highlights the cascading effects of climate change on Antarctic wildlife creating winners and losers in a rapidly changing world.
