One of the fun things we did at college was product photography. Today I got some second hand lights so when I can arrange our downstairs area into a better studio space, I look forward to trying my hand at this again. This set of instructions was the first assignment in the Diploma Product class. It was the first food shoot which led to my 2022 calendar, and I am already planning the calendar for 2023!

Today I visited the Brickworks Memorial Gardens in Holroyd: it is a favourite place for wedding photography but I found it much more than that. The remains of the industrial machinery have been preserved and a memorial wall with the names of men who were killed while working, or of work related diseases such as asbestosis and mesothelioma, are listed. I don't believe it can be a full roll call of the dead throughout the years of operation, but the name of the courageous campaigner Bernie Banton is there. Men sacrificed by their employers who failed to protect them. And it still happens.

Oops - too busy celebrating Valentine's with Ralph Seccombe to post my calendar shot for February so here it is, a day late. This shot was for one of my final assignments for my diploma - styling and photographing a Chocolate Almond Cake with Valentine accompaniments which was the February page.
