First semi-successful Aurora chase of the trip 🌌
Lights were popping off but the clouds eventually won out. Hoping for clearer skies for the next week!

90 minutes of aurora action from Wednesday night. Unfortunately I missed most of the peak trying to find an SD card 🤦‍♂️

Armed with a very basic setup of dslr, wide angle lens and tripod I was able to capture this quick 6 panel panorama in the Atacama last week. Would have loved my star tracker for longer exposures but not a bad result for a full Milky Way arch in under 5 minutes.

Canon EOS 80d, Samyang 14mm lens
1 x 30 second exposures for each of the 6 panels, ISO3200, F4, no stacking, no blending just the real sky and foreground as it was, graininess and all.

Another one from our trip to Orange last month. This one is a longer exposure with a tracking mount to capture more detail in the Milky Way with no star trailing.

Been a little while since I’ve done some astro. Couldn’t escape the city lights this new moon. Here I am overlooking the Pacific Ocean from Sydney, light pollution and all. More to come soon, here’s to looking ahead!

The Veil Nebula is all that remains of a massive supernova that lit up our daytime skies about 10,000 years ago. As the gases expand and cool they leave distinct regions of ionized hydrogen (red) and oxygen (blue) in a fairly spherical pattern.

Located in the Northern constellation of Cygnus this is a tricky one to shoot from down under. But with a low Northern horizon and the dark skies outside Coonabarabran, NSW I was lucky enough to get 3 hours of imaging time on this gem (generally considered short for this target). I would have loved more time and it's one I'll continue to add data to over the years to bring out even more detail.
