Congratulations to Mark Holdsworth, who yesterday received an OAM for his service to conservation and the environment, and to ornithology. Mark, currently in the Southwest Wilderness guiding an On Board expedition, says there's no better place to celebrate than Port Davey. 👏🏼

While Richard has been photographing the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race for over 50 years, his wife Sue has been working alongside him. Anyone who has climbed off their yacht and lined up to see the images taken of them in Bass Strait or off the coast of Tasman Island will have met her in the tent, sharing Richard’s images of the race.

Each year she has a favourite, and this image of Blink is it for this year. To Sue, it is the layers of cloud, the silhouette of Tasman Island and the 2 yachts on either side of the mast following Blink down the coast, and that metallic sparkle on the water. For Sue, it isn't always about the action; sometimes it is just the breathtaking beauty of the sea, the sky and a yacht that is almost there after completing one of the world's toughest ocean races.

Tenacity - Rolex Sydney to Hobart 2025.

Richard endeavours to photograph every yacht in the race, scrutinising the yacht tracker, looking at their speed and the weather apps, calculating when will be the ideal time to capture boats with the dramatic Tasmanian coastline behind them. Sometimes it all comes together - and sometimes the best images come from a pretty spinaker, and a beautiful wave.
