A Family Far from Home: Visiting Australia from faraway Sweden, this small family wanted a way to remember their holiday as well as have portraits they'd be proud to frame and display in their family home.
It became clear in our discussions, they value their family and their memories together and so would not settle for "a few cheap family snaps by the beach". When I understood they valued quality in photography and were not after a soon to be forgotten USB brimming with photos... only then I said Yes. "We want photos to display on our wall."
We booked in an afternoon together and I suggested they wear clothes they really like and yet are comfortable in - "forget your shoes, we'll be on the sand and maybe in the water..."
Knowing their little guy is under 2 years old I basically threw out my plan and took the "roll with what we can get - while he is still smiley" approach.
The cloud speckled afternoon turned into a beautiful sunset where we took advantage of the beautiful scenery we have here in Kingscliff. We wrapped it up soon after the sun set as the evening chill set in.
On the day of their photo reveal and ordering session they were excited. I'd only managed to show one photo where there was a gasp... "That's going on our wall!!!!!".
What followed next just blew me away. Watching their personal family portraits being unveiled to beautiful music brought the couple of tears. A turbulent ocean frozen in time as this beautiful family strolled the beach I call home, clearly in love, clearly at peace... I fought back my own tears seeing how much this meant to them, and I was a part of this moment for them.
I know my photos are designed & captured to move you, beyond the endless stream of social media, past the filters we see every day, over the soon-forgotten "like/heart" or the discarded USB. Each reveal session often ends in hugs, drying tears and a form of relief that "we did it!" I'm honoured they chose me as their photographer and I look forward to their prints arriving to their home and being mounted on their wall.
