I wanted to see how quickly I could turn around a VR/3D-180 shoot - was one day possible? - so I filmed a bunch at . Here are the highlights; I was exicted to have a chance to chat with Jeff Gipson, director of Disney's first VR short film "Cycles"; I also have a look at other immersive media tech and topics.

It's best viewed in a headset but I'd love to hear what you think of the mobile version; workflow & gear details to follow soon :]

The quality isn't amazing, and there's a lot more I could do with the audio but I think it shows that run & gun, handheld shooting with VR/3D180 rigs is possible. Hand-holding the camera for shots isn't ideal but as long as there isn't too much translation it isn't a showstopper either.

If you want the original MKV to sideload to your device (e.g. the Oculus Go) you can get it from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Afs887ZCNloqCbhL167OYsblFJXZMaNx/view?usp=sharing

The MultiDork: directed by the awesome Natalie Tran and featuring... well, me. A few times.

Testing out some new VR180 workflows; this one should have a pretty reasonable ambisonic audio mix.

It’s made of only parts of an extension tube and macro filters. If you pushed me the wall, I would say that it is similar to the Lensbaby Muse, but even mo...

Formula Drift made its yearly stop in Sonoma, California last weekend. I’ve been looking forward to this event, simply because I live less than an hour away and I had a guaranteed bed to sleep in. However, the weekend was not without snags. Upon my arrival,...

[Devon Croy] built a case to join a we**am sensor with a camera lens. The box is a PVC conduit box you’d find at a home center. He used JB Weld to attach four bolts to the back of the box. These are used to fine-tune the mounting plate for the we**am sensor to ensure it’s at the focal point of the l...
