Just a quick reminder—when the weather heats up, our birds feel it too. Giving them access to water can make a huge difference.

A bird bath is a great option year-round, especially if it’s placed somewhere shaded and safe from predators.
A
Birds rely on water not just to drink, but to cool down—and they love having enough depth for a little splash as well.

If a bird bath isn’t an option, don’t stress—any shallow container will do the trick.

DID YOU KNOW? 🤿🦎

These dragons are world-class free divers! When they feel threatened, they can bolt into the water and stay submerged for up to 40 minutes. They actually slow their heart rate down to a crawl to save oxygen while they wait for the "all clear" on the surface!

I’m so excited to share my first ever amateur wildlife documentary. I headed out to Lake Glenmaggie and found two of these incredible Gippsland Water Dragons (Intellagama lesueurii howittii) sunbathing and swimming.

An absolute master of patience. 🧘‍♂️

After four straight days of nonstop rain, mud, and hard yakka, the fence on our lot is finally finished. I built about 90% of it on my own, trudging through the elements — and it really made me think about the early Australian settlers who worked the land with nothing but their tools and determination. And if something broke, it's not like you can just go down to Bunnings and get a new one. You'd need to go and see the local smithy and see what they could do. This is why I have been using the itak (Filipino machete) without a handle for 4 days because I split the handle on it.

In this video, I walk the property and reflect on the contrast between modern comfort and the harsh reality the pioneers faced in Queensland and across Australia. No warm bed. No clean clothes. No dry house. Just grit, endurance, and the raw land in front of them. I'm no comparison. But, it did get me thinking.

I'd like to think I would have enjoyed being an Aussie pioneer, but, the reality is, the reason I enjoy playing in the mud so much, is because I know I will be going home to my beautiful wife, a shower, and a comfortable bed at night. A luxury the pioneers had to carve for themselves.

No spirit level was used in the making of this fence thus far. So go easy 😅

Oh how I long to live in a world without the need for a fence.
