Using complementary colours ( purple and yellow), I created a product photo for my 52 Frames submission this week. My favourite perfume 😉

This week's 52 Frames theme was 'unexplored' - so I ventured to Springvale to check out this building I had read about. Wow - such stunning architecture, and a colour explosion! Each time I visited there were people coming and going - a true hub for the community. So grateful for the topic 😉

When entering a photo into a contest, a major obstacle is determining which photo to submit. For the 52Frames competition theme "Shoot From Above," I selected this particular image that was captured using a drone. It was the perfect opportunity I had been hoping for! Throughout the week, I made a total of 5 visits to this location, in the hopes of capturing hot air balloons floating above the city. Unfortunately, the wind did not cooperate and blew in the opposite direction. Now, I wonder if I made the right choice for my entry. 🤔 Do you also struggle with curating your images?

Here is the rest of the narrative.... I loved how people dressed up in their team colours, and came to support their players. Must haves in a photo essay: one environmental portrait, one close up, movement, an opening and an ending.... I hope I captured that - it was certainly fun being amongst the crowd 😊

For my second ( yes we had to do 2!) Photo Essay, I chose to tell a story about the supporters on Grand Final Day. Before the match, everyone was very hopeful, and jovial - even asking to have their pictures taken.... after the match, some faces were long and sad, others were jubilant. Either way, it was a good match and it was a great atmosphere. I hope you get a sense of the emotion of the day from this set and the following set, and I hope I have captured the essence of the day.

Here are the final 6 to complete the story. Did I meet my brief? I hope so.... I learnt a lot, I had fun, and I got the job done! Thank you too to Spencer Martin and his family at 'Concongella' for welcoming me to their home and farm.

Have you ever created a photo essay? We were tasked with telling a narrative using 12 images.... that must include: an environmental portrait, a beginning, an end, a close up, and an image showing movement. Again... out of my comfort zone! Most of my class were shooting in the city, and I wanted to do something a bit different, so I picked up the phone and rang a shearing contractor. Thank you Shearing for being so obliging 😊 I spent 2 days in the shed, up near Horsham watching this team go through their paces. Gee, they work hard!
Here are the first 6 images, I'll put the next 6 in a following post.

A new subject that took me well out of my comfort and skill zone, was Manipulate and Enhance Images. This required significant practice with Photoshop and careful application of various layers and actions. Luckily, we had one of the best lecturers to guide us - thank you Keren Dobia 😊 For this task, we were required to manipulate and enhance a portrait. I was nervous about 'overcooking' the image, and you will see the before image in the second frame - I tried to make the changes subtle and flattering - I think I achieved that 😅

For my final Studio Lighting assignment, I was required to submit two portraits - one Low Key, and one High Key. How lucky am I to have such a beautiful and willing model in my family?? Thank you Phoebe ❤️ I learnt so much about posing, light positions, flags and camera settings to get these results, and we had so much fun 😊

Continuing on from showcasing some of my folio work from last year, this image was a result of the studio lighting class - create an advertising poster. I used an available hand from one of my classmates, and another to drop almonds above the camera frame. This is a regular theme in our household. 😉

I am often drawn to architecture when it comes to a black and white topic. Changing my preview to black and white helps me to visualise the tones better. London has some fabulous architecture - a shame I don't have the time to enjoy it! Next time 🤞
