Over the years in hospitality, I have been able to meet some wonderful people. Spending a couple of years as their head chef. A new era has started with the end of my time at Finlays and now at miners arms in Northampton. While I had my time at Finlay’s I spent some special times Mixing it up with all kinds of characters from different parts of the world as well as locals to Kalbarri.
In doing so I have made a few friends that are always in my life anywhere they are in the world 🌍 travellers that have passed through but few that make an impact in my life. Being in this industry it would have been hard to stay in touch with those that you befriend, besides the old fashioned way of pen pals. Now with social media, the world is at your fingertips and you can keep in touch with all that made a lasting impression on your life. Here in this post are a few pics of the crew over the years, some that stay in touch and others that have drifted away in their own lives. I pray the lives I’ve been in for the short time are well and enjoying life the best way they know how. 🙏🥰… there is always time for those I can call friends 🙏🥰 that includes the time spent with the wild life that have visited Finlays too… always time for wildlife 🥰🥰

Although we didn’t get to see the Hyacinth Macaw on this trip… again😏 we did get to see and make friends with two bird species which are both on the endangered list of the bird world. The Palm Cockatoo which had two, a male and a female on display while we were there. The had a ridged hornbill as well as a Palm Cockatoo, both of these birds were so docile with both places the birds didn’t want to leave me. We spent time with each bird that had the keepers looking worried for a moment that they didn’t want to leave us lol. I have to say, I would have been very happy to have been able to take these birds off their hands if we could 😁😁 it was a heartwarming experience to see such beautiful creatures up close and seeing each birds character being different to one another. But all were amazing!!
Between the zoo and bird park we saw that each birds character being was really well looked after and the keepers had their best interests at heart ❤️ my gratitude to them on the breeding programs they have to keep these beautiful species alive 🥰🥰

During the short space of time we visited Bali, we noticed the efforts in everything these people did for work, where we stayed was in Gianyar just out from the main city, the place was .village beautiful countryside amazing mountain views. Next to rice fields where some amazing characters worked hard. It was outstanding how fast these guys (just three) planted two fields of rice and one guy worked on two fields ploughing, at the same time Lots of little egrets followed like seagulls for a feed from the ploughed areas. Ceremonies held had these people finish with all the food and worked on sharing all that was left between the village.
People around the smaller villages kept things neat as possible, working hard in all that they do, sweeping the verge or burning dead leaves to clear the way for the litter made by them. Always friendly and respectful. Where we stayed had some really wonderful people who were so willing to help. Australian hospitality people in so many cases could learn from these people. I think Australian younger gen are mostly spoiled & entitled. Most have so much that they don’t know what it would be like to have so little.
It’s a sad case that Australia has an over enforced system that so many are so conditioned. I’ve always been one to say, Be YOU, if you can’t be YOU then go out and find YOURSELF. So many are tied to comfort, that it will eventually bite you in the ass. Live life like it was your last day. So many out there don’t have comfort. So many work to live, yet they see the best in everything. They know what it is to appreciate what they gain, no matter how small it may be. Be kind as they do and see who actually has the kindness back. Only really in times of hardship you find those that are willing to give for nothing in return, a small circle but a great one. I have been so fortunate to meet quite a lot of genuine generous people. I guess it’s like it’s said, you receive what you give and will see the snakes over time. I’ve met a few of them too.

The was a day trip after a few walks in the rain, that I’ll explain later. For now I must say I was really pleased to see all the life in this zoo being so well looked after. The behind the scenes tour really showed the contact between the keepers and creatures they cared for being a well established bond.
Besides Sharni being smacked in the face by a wandering trunk from the elephant, it was promptly made up for by the love of a beautifully docile Palm cockatoo. One of my favourite birds of all time. This one was wanting to come home with us. 😁 such a beautiful character.
Such a shame West Australia is so stringent on rules about breeding programmes. Certain creatures would have more help to keep from being made endangered or in some cases extinct. Nevertheless it was rewarding to learn about the care taken on saving wildlife through this zoo’s breeding programmes.

After that first day of our lives together as a wedded couple, from walking into a winters ocean to the ten years of adventures we’ve had and are still living, my wife has been by my side all the way. I’m so grateful that we have had each other over those ten years now. The life we lead in our love of wildlife has always meant so much to us, what better way to spend our anniversary in a place like & the people are so lovely and do such a great job at looking after the birds and reptiles they have. Sorry we didn’t get to see our friends the ribbed beaked hornbills we had the pleasure of spending two hours with on our last trip here. As always the joy was still being close to some very special birds and reptiles. But most of all spending the time and enjoying all of it together.
