Secretly I love how everything slows down in winter,
I'm reminded of the days I used to speak to the friendly cows over the fence on my childhood farm.

Winter,

Earlier Nights,
Reading books in bed,
Slower days at home making memories with the kids in our own back yard.

Exploring,
Getting muddy,
Picking flowers for the flower press.
Making potions,
Kicking a ball.
Driveway craft stores.

There is something really beautiful in this.
The Simple
The calm.
Nostalgia.

Enjoying your space and time together as a family
When life is a little less busy,
a little less loud,
You can slow down and truly embrace what matters most,

Now.

No more laughing at silly jokes,

No more movie night sleep overs with mum.

One of the most wonderful things about childhood is the excitement behind the magical world of their imaginations.

Christmas,
The tooth fairy.

Their whole world of pretend.

My son still plays with his Lego ninjas, creating battle grounds and dragon forts.

My daughter still gathers all her softies and dolls and plays schools and shops.

Which,

I used to play this with my son.

As their world grows,
The magic in their imaginations dims a little,
Until one day
They're no longer children..

And as a mum

Is my greatest horror film of all time.

My daughter and I buried a seed in our new back garden the other day.

It went deep into the earth.
'Mum, I don't like the dark, do you think the seed is going to be lonely and scared down there?'
She asked.
'Maybe, I said, remembering how I used to sleep with a light on.

'The truth is that darkness is scary. For grown ups, as well as for little kids.

Darkness is the vast unknown. The long shadowy, night of the soul.

But there is also comfort in it.

For Darkness, and the rest it brings, makes the seed grow in the most authenticly stunning way.
