Who said in-home newborn sessions had to be stressful?
Somewhere along the way we’ve been told that if there’s a newborn and a toddler involved, we should expect chaos.
And yes… sometimes there are big feelings.
This little guy had only become a big brother three days before this session
His whole world had changed overnight.
Suddenly Mum’s arms were shared. The house felt different. Everyone’s attention was on this tiny new person he was still trying to make sense of.
Of course he was a little unsure, so we went slow and gentle with him.
We didn’t ask him to sit and smile on cue or be the ‘good big brother’
We met him exactly where he was, if he wanted a cuddle, we made space for that.
If he wanted to check on his baby brother, we followed him.
If he needed Mum for a little longer, that was part of the story too.
Because that’s what this season really looks like
The beautiful parts
The messy parts
The in-between moments where everyone is finding their new place
By the end of the session nothing felt rushed. Nobody was trying to force a moment that wasn’t there.
It was calm
It was connected
It just flowed
And Mum walked away with photographs that don’t just show what those first days looked like…
They show exactly what they felt like 🌷
