Elimination finals bring a different kind of intensity.
Coorparoo made a fast start, opening an 18-point advantage in the first quarter before continuing to build across the afternoon.

Surfers Paradise kept competing and produced some big marks, strong tackles and desperate efforts, but the Kings found another gear in the final term—kicking six goals to secure a 44-point victory and keep their finals campaign alive.

Redcliffe Tigers v Kedron Lions

Finals footy at Nathan Road, with both the Reserves and Seniors in action across the day. 📸

This one was the Seniors Semi Final, and Redcliffe took control as the game went on, building their lead at every break before producing a dominant second half and holding Kedron to just two behinds after half time.

From the boundary, it was the contests that really caught my attention — some serious hang time, big grabs, bodies flying and plenty of desperation with finals on the line.

Redcliffe eventually ran away with an 88-point win, with Bradley Young, Will Lovett, Kailem Baker, Sam Jasper, Maverick Garaicoa and Enovy Tungi among their best.

For Kedron, Griffin Andrews, Reuben Ullrich, Joshua Elmslie, Theo Lang, Lachy Hunter and Zac Hughes were named among their standouts.

💚 Umpire appreciation post 💚

One last VFL umpire appreciation post from the boundary for the Lions’ 2026 season. 📸

The players might get most of the attention, but there’s another team out there covering plenty of kilometres, making the calls and keeping everything moving.

A few of my favourite umpire moments from Round 21 — from the whistle and signals to those little in-between moments you only really notice when you’re watching through a camera.

I’ve loved shooting the VFL again this season, and that includes keeping an eye out for the team in blue. 💙

Thanks for another season, umps. See you back on the boundary next year.

Brisbane Lions v Gold Coast Suns

Gold Coast Suns 11.4 (70) def by Brisbane Lions 26.17 (173)

A tough afternoon on the scoreboard for the Suns, but still plenty happening from the boundary.

Gold Coast matched Brisbane early and the game was completely level at quarter time, before the Lions started to pull away as the match went on.

From a photography point of view though, there was no shortage of moments from the Suns — contested marks, tackles, pressure, running shots and plenty of one-on-one battles that made for some great frames.

Games like this are always a good reminder that the scoreboard only tells one part of the story. There were still plenty of individual efforts, hard contests and moments worth capturing right through to the final siren.

A very even start, then Brisbane completely took over.

At quarter time there was nothing in it, but once the Lions found their rhythm, the game opened right up. From the boundary, the biggest thing for me was just how much action there was everywhere — big aerial contests, hard tackles, clean movement through the middle and plenty of moments where you barely had time to reset before the next one happened.

Will McLachlan finished with four goals, while James Tunstill and Bruce Reville had huge days through the middle, but this one really felt like a full-team performance by the end.

And for me, this game was a little bit bittersweet because it was the Lions’ final VFL game of the season.

I genuinely love shooting the VFL. I love how close you are to the action, the pace of it, the mix of experienced players and emerging talent, and the little moments you get to catch from the boundary that don’t always make the match report.

So that’s a wrap on the Lions’ VFL season for me. 💛❤️

From Round 21 of the VFL clash between Brisbane and Gold Coast, Sam Tilley #67 and Shadeau Brain #34 produced two seriously similar aerial efforts.

A little later than I would have liked getting these ones up — sorry Team Green! 💚 Life has been a little hectic behind the scenes lately, and the editing queue got away from me.

But I definitely wasn’t going to let this gallery go by without giving Team Green their moment.

Another afternoon spent watching the people in green cover just as much ground as the players, make the tough calls and keep the game moving. It’s a job that often gets noticed most when someone disagrees with a decision — and nowhere near enough when it’s simply done well.

So, even if I’m a week late saying it… thanks Team Green. 💚📸

And finally… the seniors Team Green gallery! 💚📸

Yes, I know — I’m officially running a little behind with these ones. 😬 It’s been a particularly hectic week away from the boundary, so thank you for being patient while I slowly catch up.

The seniors gave Team Green plenty to keep on top of, and as always I tried to grab a few moments of the umpires doing what they do — right amongst the action, covering an enormous amount of ground and keeping the game moving.

The players might be the reason I’m pointing the camera toward the field, but Team Green will always get some love from the boundary too.

Better late than never. 💚

A game that changed complexion after half time.

Wilston Grange took the early advantage and headed into the main break with an 11-point lead, but Coorparoo came out firing in the second half.

The Kings piled on the pressure after the break, turning the game around in the third before a big final quarter saw them run away with a 43-point win.

Plenty happening on the boundary in this one — big aerial contests, hard tackles, celebrations and some seriously good late-afternoon light to finish the day. ☀️📸

Sometimes the best Boundary Stories aren’t about what happens during the game.

While I was photographing the Reserves on Saturday, a member of the Wilston Grange coaching team approached me and asked if I could capture something pretty special before the Seniors took the field — two players receiving their guernseys ahead of their QAFL senior debuts.

This one has been a long time coming. Tom has played more than 180 games for the Gorillas, beginning all the way back in Under 9s in 2016.

After growing up in the red, white and blue, Saturday was the day he finally pulled on a senior guernsey.

Kieran’s path to his senior debut has been a very different one.

After working his way back from a knee reconstruction, and putting in the work through rehab, training and the Development side, he earned his opportunity at QAFL level.

Two players. Two very different journeys. One pretty special milestone. ❤️💙

It was a privilege to be asked to capture these moments for the players, their families and the club — the congratulations, the handshakes, the hugs and those few minutes before they officially became QAFL senior footballers.

Congratulations Tom & Kieran. 👏🏉
