90 minutes of non stop rock n roll culminating with a mind-blowing performance of Seven Nation Army.
If that wasn't good enough to finish on, I even managed to catch his guitar pick!

Still feeling really lucky that I was able to be involved in a truly historic night for Tasmanian football recently.

I chose to cover the Devonport launch, not expecting it to be the main event but soon realising that this is where the action was going to be happening.

Not only were the likes of footy legend Matthew Richardson and AFL CEO Andrew Dillon in the room but none other than my photographic idol and Chief AFL photographer .

Michael was super generous with his time, not only helping me to line up the talent in a chaotic room buzzing with excitement but even helped with my lighting setup - never in a million years did I think I'd have Michael Willson holding a flash for me!

It's been a while since I'd been involved in covering a big event like this but it absolutely brought the adrenaline and enjoyment rushing back.

Massive thanks to the team at for getting me on board and for managing to organise so many moving parts in one night at multiple locations.

Here's a couple of my highlight shots from the night as well as a few BTS pics.

Bit late getting this one posted but I had the chance in my last week at The Advocate newspaper to dig through more than a decade of memories behind the lens. As well as a double page spread in print, which I'll treasure for a long time, I have dumped 160+ extra pics in this gallery to showcase some of my favourite pics of all-time. Enjoy 💙

I'm very pleased to announce that after taking out the Tasmanian Media News Photo of the Year award last year I am once again nominated for 2022. Heading to Hobart tonight to see if I can go back to back and whilst I'm not that confident it'll happen, I am really pleased with the work I've produced this year and in particular my entry based around some of the tragic events which have occurred in our state over the past 12 months. You can read my artist's statement below...

Entry Statement:
It's easy to get lost in an endless newsfeed of COVID updates and international war, but fading and forgotten tragedies also hit tight-knit North West Tasmanian communities in 2021. The lives of three friends enjoying a day on the water which quickly turned to disaster in rough seas and left a young girl in limbo waiting for news of her uncle's recovery. A promising young athlete's life claimed by the unrelenting battles of mental health and passed onto family members left behind to carry the burden. Elderly left to live in squalor in aged care homes hit by understaffing and budget cuts, forcing residents to spend hours alone and unattended. Then perhaps the most gut wrenching of all, the Hillcrest Primary School tragedy which took the lives of six young children in a horrific jumping castle accident on the final day of school and left not only parents and siblings shattered in mourning but an entire country. Stories like these occur everyday and many slip through the cracks, not receiving the attention they require or deserve. Photographing grief and tragedy is a deeply emotional, invasive and silent experience. As a photographer you are intruding on some of the most personal and difficult moments of a person's life and must ensure a high level of respect and anonymity. In exchange you are given the rare opportunity to capture raw human emotion only experienced in times of extreme tragedy and loss. An opportunity I am always thankful for and humbled by.

Even though I'm incredibly fussy and take x10 times longer to put these together than I should, I really love getting the chance to scour through 12 months worth of shooting and pick out my favourite images that tell the story of the year that was. I've managed to narrow thousands of pics down to approximately 90 pics so please take a look if you get the chance, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks to my editors for letting me piece this together as I wanted to and for the double page spread in The Advocate newspaper today.

Advocate senior photographer Brodie Weeding takes a look back on the year that was to bring you a handpicked selection of his most powerful images for 2021.

This week has been an absolute whirlwind. What started as a quiet Monday turned into a 48 hour adventure to the Tasmanian West Coast documenting a mysterious and devastating natural phenomenon. What started as 70 reported beachings turned in 470. As hundreds of pilot whales beached themselves on sand bars along the coast at Marquarie Heads in Strahan. The sight was instantly disturbing, amplified by the sound of fins splashing in shallow water and the occasional call from a lone whale to the rest of the pod. Hope came late on Monday afternoon with the arrival of Parks and Wildlife experts among others who quickly got working on recovering the surviving animals. Unfortunately by Tuesday morning when the rescue could fully swing into action, a large number had already passed away but this didn't stop rescuers from saving at least 25 on day 2. Rescue efforts weren't helped by the discovery of 200 more beached whales further along the coast which rocketed the number from 270 to 470.
I had the bittersweet pleasure of covering this unusual event and despite being underprepared and working in cold, wet and windy conditions I was rewarded with not only the Tuesday front pages of and but also having them published by , and even . Absolutely honoured to have my photos travel so far around the globe to help illustrate a very important and unforgettable story.

Fiona and the team at have created something pretty spectacular with their show, The Story Book. An incredibly visual performance, it was dark and intense and very challenging to shoot but the rewards were absolutely worth it.
