WINTER CAMP - SWNP 🏕️🩵

Instantly recognisable by its landscape, South West Tasmania, remote, beautiful, wild.

Two nights camping, first night was able to get a bit of Astrophotography in before the fog overtook & the air glow disappeared.
(Air Glow is a faint, natural emission of light in the Earth's atmosphere, that shows up in colours of green, orange/yellow & red near the horizon)

Second day was a hike out to Lake Judd, steep inclines leading to beautiful vantage points of views across button grass plains, granite mountains and down to Lake Pedder.
Late return back to camp meant capturing a stunning sunset, and hearing the frogs night sing ☺️🫶

SOUND UP 📣

An absolutely stunning winter’s day hike, 16km return to Lake Judd, located in Tasmania’s SWNP this weekend.

Joined by a wombat for a short while, birds, frogs singing, unexpected surprise of a waterfall cascading over pink granite rock, residual snow on the peaks behind Lake Judd, a magic day for exploring 🫶☺️

NB: 16km return, rated hard, steep inclines, boggy patches, be prepared, well equipped & research weather as it can change rapidly 🌸

WEST COAST - ZEEHAN 🖤

I wasn’t too sure if I was going to post these, not necessarily any traditional ‘wow’ factor in the ordinariness of them, but as always, I’m drawn to the character of the old buildings, built when the area was thriving & full of life, then left as a reminder of how times change & evolve.

Zeehan once a busy mining town of silver, lead, zinc & tin, it was recorded as the third largest town in Tasmania in 1910 with a population of 10,000, now down to approximately 700.

The town & surrounds is littered with reminders of the mining boom, machinery, tunnels, old buildings & relics.

I would love to have seen the town in its hey day, but grateful to be preserving & recording the town today for future reference.
