This is just a phone photo and I’ve battled the internal struggle of “Do I put a phone pic on what I’ve called a ‘photography’ page?”, and I’ve decided to just do it as I haven’t got the camera skills for night time photography just yet, but was reasonably stoked with how this one came out. From a trip to the summit of kunanyi/Mt. Wellington, Hobart, as we experienced a huge solar storm resulting in what was undoubtedly the most active Aurora Australis I’ve ever seen! To be above the city and suburban lights, along with 100’s of others who’d made the trek up the mountain to witness the spectacle, was an experience that is honestly quite hard to describe. There’s an ‘energy’ from these experiences that makes you feel alive! We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world down here in little old Tassie and I feel genuinely lucky to live within 45 minutes drive of the summit of the mountain.

One of my shots from October last year, of a gorgeous female Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo (Zanda funerea - Tasmanian subspecies Z.f xanthanota) tearing into a gum tree in Wilburville, in the states central highlands, near Arthurs Lake. Always awesome to watch the strength and intelligence of these birds at work, looking for something to eat!

First photo edited on the new laptop, using Photoscape X for the first time. A bit of getting used to as I'm not totally stoked with this shot. Might re-edit with Lightroom on my mobile at some stage, but for now, here we go!

Brown Falcon (Falco berigora)
Rhyndaston, Tasmania.

Stoked 😍 Absolutely not the best shot - I was at maximum zoom, the photo is heavily cropped, and the focus is a little off. But! Still the best shots to date that I’ve taken of a Brown Falcon, and a really cool experience! First time exploring the beautiful hills of Rhyndaston out near the Coal River Valley. Well worth a look if you’ve never been there before!

New-holland Honeyeater ((Phylidonyris novaehollandiae). Always a pleasure seeing these little characters and this is one of my favourites from my first time shooting them 😍 this photo was taken in my driveway in West Hobart, with a blurry Tranmere in the background.

Whilst my camera is out of action I’m editing / re-editing and posting some old photos. This one was taken in Queensland back in November 2022, spotting my first Eastern Bearded Dragon in the wild, just alongside a Gold Coast beach walking track 😍 Passersby on the walking track would’ve seen me squatting down or lying flat on my stomach in the grass / garden trying to get the best possible shots, with a few people stopping to ask what I was photographing. Amongst the leaf litter in the garden he was quite well camouflaged! One to tick off the list ✅🦎

I love all the features captured in this one! The teeth, the nose, the paw. These guys really are like tough little machines, hearing their jaws crunch through bone always impresses me. It’s said that they have the strongest bite force, relative to body size, of any living animal. Not bad 👌🏻
